Travel 2025

A friend likes to go to Polly’s Island (not sure that’s how it’s spelled) and says it is a very nice area around MB.

I’m spending two weeks visiting Christmas markets in Germany with my sisters this December.

Our #2D was at a wedding in France a couple of weeks ago & decided that we need to do a family vacation in Provence. She’s convinced us that renting a villa with a pool would be ideal. Even better, she’d plan it all. (I think H and I would be on the hook for paying for it, haha.)
Dealing with 6 people and 4 work/vacation schedules could push it to 2026. If so, H&I will be looking for somewhere else to go next year.

We did Rome/Florence/Cinque Terra/Volterra this last July. Rome and Florence were brutally hot, and it was likely an average July. I do not recommend this! April would probably be lovely, anywhere in Italy.

“Pawleys Island”. A very nice, much less Vegas-y town south of MB. Several big golf course clubs there with condos that you can rent. Pawley’s Plantation, Litchfield, True Blue. Murrell’s Inlet is a great place for seafood (you have to drive through it to get to Pawleys Island). Huntington Beach State Park is on Pawleys and is lovely.

Georgetown, SC is also a cute town to visit if you’re staying on Pawleys.

I’m in awe of tourists who take on Rome in the summer! It was a bit on the warm side for me in mid-April and the humidity seemed high (and I live in the South). Very sunny (good!) not much shade (bad!) and little to no a/c except in the hotels. Maybe it was an unusual week. The weather was much more temperate in Prague & Barcelona.

It was definitely not a wise decision to go in July on our part, but there was a specific Rick Steves trip we wanted to go on, and it was the only time my niece could go. We’d done that exact trip in July many years ago and it wasn’t bad, but so many years of living in Seattle, the sun melts us. The tour group fortunately booked hotels with air conditioning, but I’m just too old to put myself through that again, when I have choices!

I just booked this trip for August 2025. I’ll be going solo - I’m ok with that! Planning on 3 nights at the start in Amsterdam and 2 or 3 at the end in Bruges. I’ve not been to either.
