Show me your Treva’s and Keens please! Or another similar. I am in search of walking, water resistant, open (not sneakers) for my Europe trip. I have wide, sensitive feet, so really need something comfortable. I plan on walking 6-10 miles a day. I don’t care if they’re ugly. I’m looking for comfort and stability.

Check out Merell’s as well. I have wide but small feet and recently bought a pair of Merell’s that sounds like what you’re looking for. I have been known to buy their kid shoes since they fit me and they allow for kids to have wide feet (I’m a 6.5 wide).

I swear by these as comfy sandals great for walking. Come in lots of colors so you can find ones that are very neutral and work in lots of settings.

You can find good prices at REI, Amazon and other stores for older colors if you aren’t picky.

Keen Newport or Astoria West would be my recommendations. I’ve walked many miles in them, and I may currently own both. I walked 6 miles in my Keens the first time I wore a pair, and they were completely fine. One that I mentioned is significantly lighter than the other. I really like Keen’s because of the closed toe. My kids (now close to and 30) were always allowed to wear them to camp bc they had closed toes, so they had several pairs over the years.
I recently started wearing Taos sandals. I am not sure they’d work for 10 miles, but they have velcro in places so you can adjust for correct size, and they are very comfortable.
Merrells (I see someone recommended) are also very comfortable, but I’ve never worn them for many miles.

I walked all over Spain and Portugal in these sandals last spring. The have high arch supports which I need and I love the stretchy straps…which aren’t so stretchy that they flip when walking. They dry quickly when they get wet too.

My traveling friend thinks I need closed toes for when we’re in the city. I don’t think I agree. I’ve never been a fan except in winter.

I always wear a closed toe shoe for walking in cities. I may wear a sandal at night for going out to dinner while on vacation, but personally like my feet covered when walking the city streets all day.

Thank you all. I’ve ordered one of everything! I’ll be like the princess and the pea figuring which will work best.

I have a pair of Keens (Newport) but I preferred walking in my On Clouds hiking sneakers in Europe.

Bummer, no wide width

I live in Merrell’s mocassins, but I’m always looking for something comfortable for the summer. Other than flip flops! Merells come in wide and their regulars are also pretty wide.

Yes. But most shirts that do not claim UV protection also protect against UV.

Maybe he might like something like this, designed for use in hot sunny weather?

My Dad spent a lot of time in North Africa and had one that he wore when he would go sailing. He said it was actually the best in terms of breathability and sun protection.

I’ve mentioned these zip off cargo pants here (and on the Viking Rhine River Cruise FB group). Mentioning again because they are on sale ($55.93).

The pockets are great for travel, especially the front thigh pocket that fits my iphone mini. They are nice…… not as casual/sloppy as other hiking options. The dark grey is a good travel color. LOVE the fact that they come in Petite. In fear of them being discontinued, I ordered the tan too… better for summer. Happily it turns out I had $24 in REI credit. But because tax on top of the clearance price took me over $60, shipping was free. (Thought about posting this in good deal thread).

I also recommend those pants. I got them on sale before we went to New Zealand, and they were great because over the course of the day the temps really did change. Plus they are fine to wear as shorts all day if you don’t need pants.

They are a bit water/wind resistant, helpful sometimes. Not overly hot, but it is nice that you can turn them into shorts if that happens. One tiny but much appreciated feature is the orange color code marks on the zippers parts on one leg - saves guessing at leg re-attachment time. (I only know this is a big deal because of my first pair of zip offs).

Just bought a pair of ultra warm joggers—lined in velour from Costco. They were on coupon for only $9.99! They have big pockets in front and back. I bought dark grey.

Also bought a pair of pull on tweed Dalia slacks @$12 after coupon. They have pockets on the sides and fake back pockets. It also has belt loops—not sure if I will remove them.

Both pants will accommodate thermals underneath, are machine washable and don’t wrinkle. I don’t think they will pill or attract lint either. I’m pleased with both. I normally wear about an 8 pants and bought a small in the jogger and medium in the slacks. Both fit the same (I compared waistbands in the store).

Any suggestions for WARM clothing that can be worn under shirts and pack well? When we travel, I get cold easily.

I like merino wool (Smartwool) and Uniqlo heat tech clothing.
