We bring rain pants on our hiking vacations, but we rarely wear them. Not at all in Spain, a handful of times in Britain, sometimes as much for windbreaker purposes as keeping dry.
Very poor employee management on the exec’s part. At a minimum, they should have had sunblock available even if they wanted the boat ride to be a (presumably pleasant) surprise.

How do people normally dress at work events, and how were other people (besides the one in the suit) dressed at this event?
At the very least, they should have mentioned that spending significant time outside would be part of the event, so that people with easily-sunburned skin can take appropriate precautions.
Will they pay for any skin cancer treatments in the future?

Office dress is typically “business” or “business casual”.
Most others at this lake event wore shorts and polos. Sneakers or sandals. A few wore t-shirts. I was one of just a few wearing pants.
And yes – a heads-up on the boat ride would have been helpful. While possibly suffering from a mild case of heat stroke, lol, I spent about the last 15 minutes tuning out the dwindling conversation and focusing on getting off the boat and finding shade.

I spent an inordinate amount of time stressing over this when my husband first started working. It was like a research project. Now we wear whatever we want and comment (later) about how dressed up the younger members are at some of our events. But dressing up is a sign of respect and we appreciate the effort. It really doesn’t go unseen.

My Simply Merino waffle weave tank top arrived. It fits and is very soft and comfortable. I think it will be a perfect base layer under my long-sleeved wool and dressier tops. As an added bonus, it came with 2 rectangles of identical fabric that can be used for repairing, mending, patching. I’ve not had any other garments that come with extra fabric — nice extra touch! Also, I DO mend/patch/repair my merino garments if they need it and have had several for over a decade in good condition.
I ordered a large because I prefer to have it not TOO body-hugging (plus that was the size that was left in a color I preferred). I’m usually M or L, depending on how true to size and whether I’d prefer a more relaxed fit.

I wash & gently dry my wool garments & store in large airtight ziplock bags to prevent bugs, etc.
