<p>read grammatix and see if you should guess again</p>
<p>People who get good scores on the SAT don’t do so by guessing. There nearly always is a reason why one answer choice is better than the other.</p>
<p>Once in awhile I’m just TORN between two answers that both seem really good (often on questions about tone), and then I do have to guess. So even though I’ve eliminated most of the choices, the bottom line is still that I’m guessing.</p>
<p>If you’re ever torn, usually picking the one that seems the most “obvious” or the one that jumped out at your first is your best bet.</p>
<p>Doesn’t work… if I’m ever that torn, it’s because I just can’t decide. I usually do those questions by the process of elimination, but then in the end I just can’t decide if it was a “defiant” or “admonishing” passage :(</p>
<p>just figure this whole guessing things mathemtically. Here I will do it for you. </p>
<p>There are 5 questions. If you guess now you have a 0% chance of getting it right. </p>
<p>Eliminate 1. You have a 25%. That 5% might not seem like a lot to you but realize this: that if you consider you have just done a 100 quesiton test. That 5% translates into 5 questions. Just something to think about…</p>
<p>Elimnate 2. Now 33.33%</p>
<p>Eliminate 3: Now 50%</p>
<p>Eliminate 4: THIS IS WHERE YOU ALWAYS WANT TO BE lol</p>
<p>hope that helps.</p>
<p>anyway…back to the list</p>
<p>1) Master the vocab!
2) Use your head!
3) Get a good nights sleep before you take the SAT!!!
4) Do the SAT QotDs as a warmup before taking any SAT exam.
5) Bring snacks to keep yourself fueled during the breaks.
6) Read a lot.
7) Listen to NPR.
8) Commit to the SAT with passion and tell yourself it’s fun! I don’t know about you, but I can’t imagine doing too well if I were to walk into the SAT administration room with a pessimistic attitude.
9) poo before you leave so don’t you feel like pooing during the exam
10) get an adequate amount of caffeine in your system (I did 2 rockstars) and make sure you have something to eat as a snack, 3.75 hours is a long time to just sit and be attentive.
11)Read something like a newspaper before you leave for the testing center. This will help you on the CR passages.
12) Conserve enough energy to do well on sections 8, 9 and 10 – the three sections in which they’re all guaranteed to count. This means there’s no “test” section in these last 3 sections.
13)Be calm…believe it or not…it is one of the main reasons of silly mistakes…but also be aware enough to do the problem correctly and catch the subtleties of the questions
14)Try circling the answers on the booklet, and then transferring every five answers to the answer sheet (when time starts to run out, transfer every answer immediately) and circle the number of a question you might want to go back to. Transferring every fifth answer saves time from you looking back and forth from the answer sheet to the booklet.
15)Read professional newspapers like the NYT or Washington Post, on a daily or weekly basis, and read novels in your spare time. Both activities will reinforce vocabulary and many of the grammar concepts that are going to be tested </p>
<p>(my bro told me this, he started with a 510 (writing) junior PSAT…SAT he got all multiple choice correct and 8 on the essay…800)</p>
<p>theworld – I think you mean “if you guess now, you have a 20% change of getting it right” (when you can’t eliminate any answers)?</p>
<p>^ yeah you’re right. Sorry that was a typo. Good eye.</p>
<p>matrixrebloated, I thought the lowest you could get on the essay with a perfect multiple choice but still get a 800 was a 9 or a 10.</p>
<p>^ I think in general that’s how it is, but maybe his brother got a really hard test with an easier curve.</p>
<p>
</p>
<p>I am being prragmatic, because if you are overconfident on the SAT you will be deprecated.
Candid View:</p>
<p>Eliminate 0: 80% of answering the question incorrectly.
Eliminate 1: 75% of answering the question incorrectly.
Eliminate 2: 66.7% of answering the question incorrectly.
Eliminate 3: 50% of answering the question incorrectly.
Eliminate 4: 25% of answering the question incorrectly.
Eliminate 5: YOU SHOULD NEVER BE HERE!!! COL(Crying Out Loud)</p>
<p>Keep in mind that you may also have a possibility to eliminate the right answer! :(</p>
<p>No more additions to the list?</p>
<p>I guess just keep these tips in mind. But remember they are tips are not somethig that should be followed like law. Do whatever you think works for you. What works for you might not work for your friend and vice-versa.</p>
