Tricks to not talk at work.

How about do it the Ben Carlson’s way, slow and thoughtful by saying “Let me think about and I’ll get back to you” and you forget to get back to that person.

well, good thought Dr.G., but you have to make prompt decisions with little info. the monday morning quarterbacks have a heyday. it is in a sense a no win situation and I know that from the start. recent changes in administrations attitude for everyone make you on the defensive. my response while controlled by most people standards was getting harder. I am sure this is true for a lot of peoples jobs.

@rockymtnhigh - What prevents you from pulling the plug now and not waiting 5 months? Will you leave a lot on the table if you do so?

Maybe develop sudden hearing loss (wear earplugs) and have things put in writing that you respond to in writing? Sounds pretty dreary having to wait things out while you’re in such a tense work environment.

Overall there is a lot of positive parts of the job and it has been a good place for me in general. I think I miss my friends at work who have retired in the past year and moved.

And soon you’ll be one of those people as well, and someone from your office will be missing you.

Make yourself a meeting bingo game like http://www.tysknews.com/LiteStuff/bingo.htm and spend your time concentrating on filling up the boxes.

^^^^Love it!!!

@intparent-
Update - ONE MORE DAY! I amazingly got a letter to the editor at our local newspaper thanking me. I am truly thankful for that confirmation. It was really nice, perhaps the nicest public confirmation I have ever received! Also, through the past months I have said to my myself, '#more months 'etc and it really helped. now ‘one more day!’ Was asked to go to the biweekly meeting today by my boss, got a cake and card and a nice thank you gift. I have lasted through the months and not said anything weird.

Congrats on your last day in this toxic environment–you made it!

Wow. You deserve a medal!

Do something really, really nice for yourself this weekend to celebrate the end of one era, and the beginning of another.

Meetups saturday and teardrop camping sunday- both new adventures. My idea of heaven- meeing new friends and nature. So excited!

Enjoy!!!

Teardrop camping combines the best of several worlds–some protection from the elements, cooking facilities, often in nature, and relatively inexpensive. Hurrah!

Congrats to OP.

This thread reminds me of this: A coworker came to my work area and said he would like to exchange personal phone numbers with me because he thought he believed he might not be here for long. 5 months is a very long time for most of us here! Many of us would congratulate ourselves we could survive that long. The question of “burning rate” (of company’s cash) was raised openly in our corporate-wise meeting.

Good for you! Congratulations and enjoy the next phase.

can’t help you but you might enjoy this scene from TV show Seinfeld when Elaine has had enough of the office birthday parties and cake …
