I would agree that these incidents are cases of a few bad apples, and its too bad that it makes my school come off as homophobic. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time year so far (Im a junior). I have always been a motivated student striving for challenges and excellence, and I love my classes, my professors, and my community. As my brother is gay, I am an avid supporter of LGBT rights and know that there is a lot of diversity on our campus. Our administration will not tolerate acts of hate and discrimination.

As a current student I find that it is definitely an expectation for students to be tolerant and accepting of the LGBT community. I often see pride flags hanging out of windows, and we have resources such as the Queer Resource Center (QRC) and an organization called EROS - Encouraging Respect of Sexualities. They hold different events to promote awareness and foster a friendly and fun environment no matter one’s sexuality. Here is the link to the EROS Facebook page, you can check it out and start a conversation with someone in the group if you like!
