yay i got my housing assignment, did anyone else get theirs yet?
apparently im a double but they say that it is subject to change. who else is staying in kern hall?

dude I am! haha yea i’m in a double too. lucky us!

…and I thought UCR was disappointing.

UCR has been open for more than 50 years.
UCM has been open for less than 5 years.

Tell me, which is more disappointing now?

wow last year I managed to be in a double by myself for a semester, housing had always been UCM biggest PRO, now what does it have left?

If it makes you guys feel any better, three out of five people in my dorm last year failed out of UCM. You might just get that double.

hahaah thanx for the optimism! +D

It really isn’t that bad. Once you get there you’ll realize you made the right choice, and the triple situation won’t bother you as much. UCM isn’t as bad as people make it out to be, and a lot of the faculty is truly amazing. Check out my rant/rave for more.

I knew it!!! Everybody I know from UCM says it sux! The only think i didn’t like was the forced triple but I didn’t get a forced triple so I’m ok. haha But, yea I can’t wait.

Most of the people at UCM are upset that they didn’t get into UCB or UCSC or the like. I got into every school I applied to except Stanford (UCLA UCB UCM UCSC PU CSU Stanislaus) and decided on Merced because of a scholarship offer. It was 100% worth it. I realized this after one of my professors (lecturer no less) literally came to my dorm to see if I was OK after I missed two lectures (I had the flu). People want to see you succeed here, and they will bend over backwards to help you. But back to dorm advice: one year in the dorms is enough. Get a house after this. Its cheaper, there are no insane RA’s, and you’ll sleep better. Also, buy a mattress cover. You’ll thank me later because the mattresses are covered in plastic and make your back sweat.

Hey Scruffy what year student are you?

I’m technically a senior because of AP’s and whatnot, but I have spent 3 semesters at UCM.

Live off campus its much more cheaper. Village Landing, Village Terrace and Grandville are nice apartments. (Grandville-if you can handle trains everyday and night. LOL.) Houses are cheap to buy or are cheap to rent a room from. I recommend living at Belevue or along North or West Yosemite Avenue since cattac bus route through there.
