<p>I don’t plan on going to UCSD, but it’s a slight pick-me-up after getting rejected from UCLA.</p>

<p>@limabean22: As a current 1st year Muir student, I think I can help you a little.</p>

<p>But before I go on a rant about how amazing Muir is, are there any questions that I can help you with in particular?</p>

<p>@ limabean22: check this out [Appeals</a> - Freshman Applicants - UCLA Undergraduate Admissions](<a href=“http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/AppealsFr.htm]Appeals”>http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/AppealsFr.htm)</p>

<p>revelle for microbiology!</p>

<p>It hurts to know I had much better stats than some people but was rejected. I guess being poor and first gen helps. :stuck_out_tongue: Congrats to all.!</p>

<p>My son got accepted into Eleanor Roosevelt College. What can you tell me about ERC?</p>

<p>heytherek- thanks. good to know.</p>

<p>paradise17: haha, thanks! no questions in particular at this moment. please feel free to rant!</p>

<p>Warren! Biochem and Cell! Same 4 UCLA major.</p>

<p>haha okay. well first of all, muir is the best (my biased opinion) and even if you decide NOT go to go muir & ucsd, you should feel extremely proud that you got into muir. it is undoubtedly the hardest college to get into for a lot of reasons that attract many students.
pros include:
muir has the largest number of orgs (clubs) out of the six colleges. a.k.a. there’s a ton of stuff to get involved in.
considered to be the closest to the beach.
we used to have the best dining hall.
the GE sequences are the “most flexible” a.k.a. easiest. even though i was accepted with 0 AP credits, i think that by the end of next year i’ll be done with my GE’s. (i’m currently a first year).
i always see people out in the quad doing stuff (which i think doesn’t happen as much at some of the other colleges).
the res halls (dorms) are designed very well in my opinion. they’re made for people to actually be social with each other.
the OLs (orientation leaders) and HAs (house advisors/RAs) are amazing. we just finished announcing who they all are.
it is very central to other parts of campus. (central being a general term considering that the ucsd campus as a whole is big).
muirons (as we affectionately call ourselves) are a very diverse group of people, and despite recent disheartening occurrences, we remain tolerant and respectful of one another.</p>

<p>cons:
right now we don’t have a dining hall (it’s being renovated), however, when you enter as a first year, it will be open again.
they are also in the process of building more apartment buildings which will continue for your first year. (this can be a pro or con or both depending. a con because yes, there is noise. a pro because by the time you’re “eligible” for apartments as a second year, they’ll be brand new).
a lot of people say that the architecture of the building in muir are ugly (again, personal opinion), and one of my sorority sisters once said “ooooh, you live in tioga (one of the dorm towers)? muir looks like the projects”.
if you plan on bringing a car as a first year, parking in the muir parking lot specifically is pretty awful between the times of about 8 am-5 pm.
a personal con, is that the cutting down of the eucalyptus trees during the construction has made me aware that i’m allergic to eucalyptus. hahaha.</p>

<p>Thanks so much. I’ve been hearing a lot that Muir’s GE’s are easy. What exactly does this mean? Easy to get an A? </p>

<p>Also, Just curious, what is your major? I hear Warren is known for engineering, is Muir known for anything in particular?</p>

<p>thanks again!</p>

<p>“easy” GEs doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s easy to get an A, but it does mean that you have much more options that you have when deciding which GEs you want to take.
here’s a link that explains which classes fulfill each requirement: [John</a> Muir College :: Celebrating the Independent Spirit](<a href=“http://muir.ucsd.edu/academics/generaled.shtml]John”>http://muir.ucsd.edu/academics/generaled.shtml)
for example, while revelle requires calculus, muir allows you to choose between math OR natural sciences.</p>

<p>i am a Political Science/International Relations major (and it wasn’t until orientation that i found out that ucsd is 7th in the nation in poli sci).
muir isn’t “known” for any particular majors. the reason why warren is known for engineering is because the jacobs school of engineering is located in warren. given this, it is unlikely that an engineering major would take classes there until later (like 3rd or 4th year). however, the psych department is located in muir, so i guess you could say that it is known for psych?</p>
