Keep plugging! My weight loss started out very slowly and I was getting quite discouraged. I kept up at it, and after a couple of months, I finally started losing. I’m down over 20 pounds now. Averaging a loss of one pound per week. I still have a long ways to go, but I’m glad I stuck with it.
@abasket @MaineLonghorn Thanks for the encouragement! I’d settle for a pound a week over nothing for two (or more, but gosh I hope not)!
It’s true that I don’t have a tremendous amount of weight to lose, maybe 30 pounds but it depends how I look after 20. I was a lot younger the last time I weighed 30 pounds less than my current weight, and my body has changed a lot. My sister-in-law has a lot more weight to lose and seems to be losing faster. At least if I don’t have my own victory to celebrate, I can celebrate hers! I’d love to see her get off her blood pressure meds.
When I was younger, I could lose weight VERY easily, so the new reality has been a big adjustment! I’m realizing that I will need to eat really carefully after I reach my goal weight. Even one “splurge” meal tends to stick on me where it didn’t used to.
One more thought…the scale is only one measure of weight loss. How are your clothes fitting? Are your rings looser on your fingers? Can you feel any difference other than the number on the scale? The 2 weeks of my minuscule (.25 pounds each) loss were major shape shifting weeks for me.
One other tip - I have found that going to a gym and lifting weights (under supervision!) is very helpful. And believe me, I have just about ZERO athletic ability. I’ve been on “Level 1” (lowest level) forever and will probably always be there. But I feel stronger and my body shape is definitely changing due to the lifting. I found a gym that has classes for older people, and that has been awesome.
@MaineLonghorn - I agree. This time around, the gym has been my very best friend in getting almost 10 pounds off me (in 8 weeks)…I had a (relatively) small amount to lose and am almost at my goal. I discovered Aqua Fit, and at almost 60, I single-handedly, have brought the average age down a notch or two! And like you, I’m on almost always on the lowest settings of the machines, but what a difference!
@MaineLonghorn and @JustaMom just read your posts and have been inspired. Just restarted WW 6 weeks ago have 35 to lose, only down 6, but have added weights back to my routine this week. This weight crept on the past 5 years insidiously. Thanks ladies!!
Hi all, I’m checking in again after quite some time away. I reached goal about 4-5 months ago and hit my lowest low (25 pounds down) a month ago. Since then, I’ve been going up and down but mainly staying stable. Not gonna lie, it’s not easy.
@MaineLonghorn, I found myself nodding vigorously at both your posts: YES, one big splurge and it’s a week of careful eating to get back to normal and YES, going to the gym and lifting weights is incredibly helpful. I am careful to stay at the lowest level too because the risk of injury is very real if I try to do what the 30 year olds are doing but wow, over the years it’s made an enormous difference in how I look and feel.
@IBviolamom, BTDT and I feel your pain. “All” (I know it’s hard) you need is to wait for the rewards and not give up. I promise. It takes longer for some people and if you are starting from a place of healthy eating and/or don’t have a lot of weight to lose, it’s harder. (I’m not even touching age.) I didn’t even have the 5 pound weight loss at the beginning. I was doing everything right and even with all that effort, I would go in weekly and see these tiny losses or no loss at all .5, .2, 0, you get the idea. I was so angry! It seemed as if everyone around me was celebrating 3 pound losses or great milestones. I was happy for them but so frustrated. What saved me was that the small losses eventually added up and kept me going until my body got the idea and cooperated–to an extent. The most I ever lost in a single week was a little over a pound. But I’m 25 pounds down! It is frustrating but have faith. You will get there.
I just came from my WW meeting. I was down 1.2 this week which I was happy about. This is not my first time doing WW and this time the weight is coming off much more slowly. I love the new Freestyle diet and I am taking advantage of all that it has to offer such as zero point foods as well as the weekly points. I don’t feel deprived and maybe that will help me keep the weight off this time. For me, losing weight at a slow pace may end up being a good thing in the long run. Today’s subject was plateaus. Lots of folks had stories of frustration, but ended up happy with their weight loss ultimately. The leader did say that the average weekly weight loss is .8.
You are all making me feel so much better, thanks! I’m going to keep it up and hope I’ll eventually see results!
@IBviolamom I’m on one of the WW facebook pages and a lot of folks on there talk about the Sprengel123 plan to combat plateaus. It came up in my meeting today too.You can google it and learn about it if you haven’t heard of it. It’s similar to the Wendie Plan from a few years back.
Yay… down another 1.4, for a total of 18
8 more pounds to goal!
One more down for me! 4.8 to goal! Don’t give up, it works!
YAYYYY
Have you bought a nice smaller sized bathing suit yet?
Thank you for inspiring me to look into WW @bjkmom. Life changer!!
Down another pound - 5 so far and a lot more to go.
Maybe. But 5 pounds is what my niece weighed when she was born… admittedly a bit on the scrawny side.
You’ve lost the weight of an entire little person!!! What a great start!!!
Last year I lost 16 lbs on WW, and re-gained the lifetime status I earned in 2000 and haven’t seen in nearly a decade. Unfortunately a busy and stressful few months have led me to led me to start slipping again; I’ve barely tracked, I’ve only been going to weigh-ins about once a month, and haven’t sat through an entire meeting in 3 or 4 months. Not surprisingly my weight has started to creep back up. I’m only 4 or 5 pounds above my goal weight, but I can see and feel the difference and I don’t like it. So today I went to a meeting to get back on track, and brought one of my kids with me. She asked to come along because she’s prematurely gained The Freshman Fifteen and wants to develop healthier habits before college: so glad we can do it together! Also glad to have found this thread, I’m going to follow along for some extra inspiration and accountability.
@bkbmom - not yet. As it stands all my last year summer stuff fits. I wasn’t kidding when I said I didn’t have one of the fluctuating wardrobes. I simply squished myself in as best I could as I inched up!
Ok, to all the people who encouraged me when I wrote my “discouraged because the scale hasn’t moved in a week and a half”, WHAT MAGIC IS THIS because today is weigh-in day and I’m down 2.8 pounds! It’s so weird, it’s like my body was feeling possessive the first half of the week and then said, “nah, we don’t need this!” :)) You all worked some kind of hocus pocus on me!
I did try to change some things to see if it was the combo of foods even though I was sticking to points. I tried more salads with grilled chicken and limited carbs more. I also probably doubled my water intake (and quadrupled my trips to the restroom ) Not sure if that’s what it was, but yay! Thank you all for your encouragement and support. I’m down 8 pounds total, and my daughter is flying home from college tonight so I’m eager to see if she notices a difference!
