I finally got to a BMI of 24.9 today. Very happy! My body fat percentage is still way too high, but at least this is a start. I’m worried about what will happen when we go on vacation in a couple of weeks. I will be away for three weeks, argh.
I ran into Aldi’s today and of course did not get a basket and forgot the bag so I was carrying the bag of flour and bag of sugar to the checkout when I realized that I was always carrying these bags around with me unitl I lost that 10 lbs. They were pretty heavy. I felt better though about the steady loss. Still have a lot to go but tangible progress is nice.
Ack! This is the period where it gets really difficult for me. I’m 2 pounds from “goal” and now it’s 1/2 pound losses at a time. I feel great, I think I look better, and it’s actually the beginning of maintenance…the hardest part of any weight loss.
I’m down 18ish (missed this week’s meeting) and still 7 pounds from goal.
But yesterday I wore a new bathing suit, down a size from last year. And I’ve got to tell you: I felt like a million bucks!!!
^Isn’t it a great feeling?
When it comes to maintenance, I just have to keep telling myself the saying I learned at WW: “Nothing tastes as good as thin feels.” Kind of corny, but it helps me.
Ladies and gents: “Nothing tastes as good as healthy feels.”
Completed 5th week and down another 4.6 lbs! Really surprised, but sort of not - dropped the bananas and mangos and stuck with berries and apples for the fruit. My hunger level has subsided quite a bit. This is working for me…I am determined to stick it out and hope to be at that point where I have a pesky last 10 lbs to lose but that is a long, long, way off.
@runnersmom I seem to be doing the .8 lb thing more often than any other number lol. Like you I find myself eating cleaner, exercising, and hardly ever using my weeklies or Fit points so I guess it’s most likely age finally catching up to me lol. I think anything that is not a gain is still a weekly win for me (one more week I didn’t go nuts with a bag of crackers or cookies) but it’s funny I seem to have the same person weigh me in on these minimal loss weeks and she never says “good job” or “keep it up”. In fact, she seems disappointed by my .8’s lol. I try to avoid her but it doesn’t work out always. Thank goodness she just weighs people in and is not the meeting leader. I might not go back!
GOOOOOOAL!
I’ve done it (and a little extra loss besides) - this morning when I weighed in I was quite surprised to learn I’d dropped 2.4 pounds from last week. Surprised because the previous 2 weeks had been dribbles. And quite honestly I didn’t do anything differently. I’m a creature of habit.
The leader where I go knows my family backstory with WW and is enthusiastically trying to recruit me to become a leader. One part of me is interested, the other side, isn’t even a little bit. I need to do a deep dive to figure it out.
As I’ve mentioned before, maintenance is the “hard part” - now comes the real work.
Congrats @JustaMom! That is so great! I am doing a steady 1 lb a week. Looong way to go. Question, how low do the daily and weekly points go when they adjust for weight loss? So far I am fitting this plan into my life but I’m wondering if it will become much harder to do without making really big changes.
@Singersmom07 - would you believe my points never adjusted in 14 weeks? I never thought much about that really, since I had a smaller amount to drop - still took 14 weeks to shed 15 pounds…BUT this wasn’t a fad diet, this was eating, exercising and being aware.
@Singersmom07 - I did some research and found this tidbit…
The new lowest Daily Points Target is set at 23 SmartPoints to compensate for the zero point food additions. Your Weekly Points Allowance does not change.
This explains why the points never changed for me, as when I began my daily allowance was 23 points.
Thanks @JustaMom - I am already at 23 but I had a memory of long ago that allowance went down as you lost weight. It is good news that it doesn’t. I have made some adjustments and I am more thoughtful about trade offs that seem to be working. Slow and steady is fine with me if I can continue to live this way.
I’m so excited to see this thread! I’ve been on WW on and off many times…it is the best way to live, for me. My problem lies in going off track.
I was on another weight loss thread here until December. I’ve since gained some of the weight I had lost, but am back on the WW wagon.
I will definitely be checking in regularly here, as I am online only until July and love a community!
Recommitment date: June 1
Loss to date: 2 lbs.
Short term goal: 22 lbs.
@GCmom - I too have been on/off WW many times…you have to do it when you’re ready. Because my company sponsors WW @ Work, I felt obligated to do it the several times when I wasn’t ready just because they were starting a new session. Well, this time I was ready and was waiting for a new session to start - the new program is working for me @ -18.6 lbs in 7 weeks. I was inspired by our leader who lost over 100 pounds and one of her assistants who also lost over 100 lbs and she just mentioned at our last meeting that it took her 14 different starts to really feel she was ready, but when she was it just worked. Very encourage, I actually think I can see this through now.
@JustaMom, when they said that your weekly points don’t change they were speaking to people who transitioned from the previous version of the program to Freestyle. The transition didn’t involve an automatic change in weekly points. However, when people lose weight, their weekly points may go down. This was true on the previous program and it still is.
@threeofthree, wow! That’s a great weight loss. And I think your comments about needing to be ready are very wise.
And I keep losing and regaining the same .8 lbs! I’ve increased my exercise, kept to my points (and have been careful about fruit and other higher carb no point items), and while I feel fitter, my weight refuses to budge. I know I don’t have a lot to lose, but it’s frustrating! I may have to settle for being healthier.
Congratulations to all who have been so successful!
@Marian - all I know is I found this bit of information online: The new lowest Daily Points Target is set at 23 SmartPoints to compensate for the zero point food additions. Your Weekly Points Allowance does not change.
In the past, the daily points target would have decreased even by 1 as weight was shed. My number started at 23 and remained there the entire 15 pound loss - and remains 23, now that I’ve hit my goal.
@runnersmom - I’m curious if you use your weekly points. I hardly ever did. I did the old way of utilizing my activity points if I went over, which would “only” be between 3 and 4. But I was pretty strict with myself about not doing that too often.
I don’t. I pretty much hit my daily points and but sometimes have some left for rollover a couple of days a week. This is not an uncommon pattern for me as I seem to always be trying to lose the stubborn last 10 pounds that appeared after menopause.
@runnersmom - it may well be your new normal. About 10 years ago I watched Dr. Phil’s weight loss challenge & read the book. He emphasized “get real weight” stressing that at 50 we simply are not going to weigh what we did at 23, and urged picking a get real weight, which would be a realistic goal. He urged “measuring” energy levels, how our clothing fits, etc., VS the scale, which he said isn’t a very good tool anyway. Showed us 15 women, all the same “weight” and each one looked completely different, and wore a different size. It was a wonderful book (The Ultimate Weight Solution: The 7 Keys to Weight Loss Freedom) - reading that book (doing the self audits) and watching that year of programs combined with WW propelled me to lose 50 pounds I’d gained after rupturing 2 discs gardening (I was hospitalized for 2 weeks and could hardly move for a year). Since then I’ve caught myself a couple of times inching up, 10 pounds once, and just recently 15, but getting back on track is quick and relatively painless. No more yo-yo!
