Tulane [no debt] vs Georgetown [$180k debt] for History/Poli Sci [full tuition scholarship vs $60K/yr]

I agree with this. I have a friend who went to Harvard and works in pharmaceutical promotion now doing quite boring work and a friend with Columbia and Harvard degrees who can’t keep a job. Then there’s my husbands friends with Stanford Business degrees who stayed at home with kids. When in grad school at Columbia I taught undergrads for 3 years and some were wasting their time—and money. Some. You cannot guarantee your kid a future by sending them to school X. Don’t go deep into debt -the kid may have to scramble a bit more from Tulane to get noticed but not much more and so what.

It was a while back. And I don’t fault decisions made when the school was bouncing back from Katrina. When I was in college we had a visiting professor in the theater dept who was a bit of a washed up actress. She was there for a semester. Don’t think it detracted overall from the reputation of the school. But we are off topic. Bottom line for this student- Tulane is the clear choice.

On that we can agree! A(Nog on the other thing tho.)

I think we can all agree that any number of political hacks have been hired by any number of universities simply based on their name recognition. Can say the same thing about a lot of fields though - not just politics.

Not a Gingrich fan either, but he does have a Tulane connection that may explain any invites. He completed his M.A. (ā€˜68) and Ph.D. (ā€˜71) there.

Please get back on topic and off of Gingrich.

Ok, but It’s about Tulane . It was a decision Tulane made after Katrina. Just giving perspective

I’m paraphrasing, but a post that says ā€œNewt Gingrich sucks, but I will now write 19 paragraphs that focus only in Tulaneā€ still violates ToS.

It’s a common misconception that going to Georgetown for undergrad will give you a leg up on admission to Georgetown for law school. It won’t. Go to Tulane for free.
