Aren’t there are some required religious classes at BC? (A Quick Look indicates that there are 2). “ Students must take one Christian Theology (CT) course and one Sacred Texts and Traditions (STT) course .”
The undergrad population will be different at the schools. BU is 70% Catholic. Tulane is about 30% Jewish. One of my s’s went to Tulane. He met his now wife there. They had a great time at Tulane.
Hi, I just want to share that I DID get into Tulane with my stats (fall start), and all but one other school I applied to (UIUC - I did not apply to BC), including VT, Delaware, JMU Honors, Wisco, Pitt Honors, PSU, Minn, IU, Maryland (FC), all the SUNYs, and, after an EA deferral, fall start Clemson. All but Tulane and Clemson offering merit, some offering a whole lot.
For anyone reading this, don’t let anyone discourage you or tell you your goals are impossible. I am very proud of how hard I worked and the outcome I achieved
Thanks so much! Many on this thread were so encouraging to me last year and I benefitted a lot from the advice I was given.
I am probably between Maryland, Wisco, and Tulane. I love Tulane, but it is so VERY expensive and despite what they claim, they are actually not generous with Aid. I was offered extremely generous merit money at almost all of these schools (nearly a full ride at the SUNY’s, which I forgot to mention, and I am OOS), so it’s getting harder to justify Tulane’s sticker price, since I want to go to graduate school.
Great choices! My D is at Tulane, I attended Wisco and I live very close to UMD, so please let me know if I can help with any comparisons of the schools. In my opinion, you can’t go wrong with any of them. Congratulations!
Nearly a full ride at the SUNYs!!! And you mentioned that you are intending to be pre-law. Law school is expensive and it’s 3 more years after college.
Honestly I don’t see how you can turn that down. It may not be exactly what you were hoping for, but college is NOT your future. It is the bridge to your future. Coming out of college debt free with money to pay for the law school of your choice would be a gift.
Meant to clarify when my son went to Tulane, He had a huge merit scholarship that made it less expensive than our instate Public (which, he didn’t even apply to because he didn’t want a large school.) But to be perfectly honest, we would have had a hard time justifying a large sticker price for Tulane if that had been an issue.
Congratulations to your son. What a gift! I wish so much that Tulane was offering me something, it stings that they are not when so many others are, but as @Bill_Marsh reminded me, it would be a gift to graduate debt free and to have some money left over to pay for law school, which I am very determined to attend. I wish these schools we’re not so expensive. Nearly 100k per year is a terrible burden for most families.
You are so right. Do what is best for you and your family. He was Fortunate to have a full tuition scholarship plus national merit. We did not look a gift horse in the mouth.
States are very stringent on qualifications for in state if a student is there solely for the purpose of attending college. What state would consider her in state after one year of college attendance as an undergrad? Still dependent on parents?
