Twinkle, Twinkle, little star.

I thought I’d seen a lot of stars on my first cruise, but it was nothing compared to the stars on the beach on the west coast of Kauai. At night, looking out to the ocean and sky, there’s nothing at all but stars and more stars (the small islands in the distance totally disappear from sight). I thought I was prepared for how it would look, but I was bowled over by just how many stars were visible.

Best stars ever was when I attended an archeological field camp outside Reno one summer during college. One night we camped out in a salt desert - slept on cots out in the open. Astonishing sky - it felt like I was falling into the Milky Way.

We don’t/can’t see the stars. Ok, maybe occasionally but, we live in the city. When we go to Maui…the sunsets and the stars are magical.

On a trip to the Grand Canyon years ago, we did a ranger-guided tour on the South Rim after dark. Nothing like laying at the edge of the Grand Canyon staring up at the stars to realize what a tiny cog we each are in this universe.

My dad runs a lot of star parties in his part of GA. Knows all the good places to hang out!

We go camping in western Maryland a couple of times a year and once the campfires go out, the skies are ablaze with stars. I love walking in the moonlight.
