Two humans and two dogs rescued after five months at sea

Yeah, glad there was no modern day Dudley and Stephens situation…

So, will there be a book or a movie out first?

Two humans in a boat (to say nothing of the two dogs)…

Wow! This type of trip is definitely off my bucket list, lol!

I had read that they were not particularly experienced sailors but that someone had advised them on both the water purifiers and the extra food. The water purifiers sound like a literal life saver. I agree with the poster upthread who said Puerto Rico should be given some of those devices.

I tried to find where I had read that there were also problems with the mast. Not sure where I originally had read that part, but here is some more:

And I also bet there will be a book and/or movie out eventually!

A PLB would be required equipment if I did any sailing. Cheap insurance against situations like this.

Glad these women (and dogs!) are okay.

Their story is getting fishier and fishier every day. [-(

Yup, especially when another story said this:

"The women said their rescue came just in time.

“I honestly believed that we were about to die within the next 24 hours,” Appel told TODAY."

This story hasn’t sat right with me since the beginning… but I know absolutely nothing about boats and sailing so maybe it is typical to way over prepare like that.

But then I saw pictures of them. They (humans and dogs) certainly do not look like they were away from civilization for 5 months.

They didn’t use the emergency beacon, there was no tropical storm off Hawaii when they said there was, and they visited a few other islands but didn’t dock there or something? Very fishy.

Yup, so many holes pocked in their story by that nbc news article. It’ll be interesting to see how this plays out.

@doschicos - I’ve been wondering about that statement too. They obviously had been doing well enough up to that point and they still had food.

As for the new details coming out…
What the heck? They didn’t use their beacon because they didn’t think it was enough of an emergency!? Maybe for a few days if they really thought they could fix the situation, but after a while I think it could be considered an emergency.

I think it’s fake. The question is why they faked it. Nuts?

For publicity? One of them belongs to Hawaii Actors Network, advertises that she will do any stunt.

I don’t get it. It’s not even that impressive, given that they had enough food and access to water.

I didn’t know desalination equipment for boats was good enough to purify water for drinking for 5+ months for 2 people + 2 dogs.

Yeah the big question (if it’s fake or embellished) is what’s the motive? Sounds weird all around.

I also wonder, where were they for all that time? Were they actually out there on the water, or were they somewhere else? In this day and age of tech…someone has to know.

Seems like they may want to write a book and get a movie and think they duped everyone tho it has never made sense, particularly the water desalination, to me.

Looking for a book deal and miniseries.
