Two more warm winter coat questions

I bought the LLBean 3 season jacket for D over the holidays because it was such a bargain (closeout color for under $30). Unfortunately, tho it fit her, she said it was “too noisy,” and had me return it for a refund -$6.50 postage. :frowning: Oh well, that was the last time I tried to save her money buying her a jacket!

It seemed like a great jacket, but she’s getting increasingly particular about her wardrobe and she really does have quite a lot of clothing, so she doesn’t need things she doesn’t absolutely LOVE.

I have heard that snow continues to fall all over the place and I send warm thoughts your way! For us, it has been cool as well, hitting low 60s at times!

My style hound college freshman loves Mountain Hardware. I don’t like the price.

NYSMILE- Please report back on the NF jacket you purchased. I bookmarked it. Blue would be fine for my son, IF he would wear it!

Jealous of all of you. Son#1 in Miami- nothing heavier than a sweatshirt needed. Son#2 in Buffalo and only wears a full zip sweatshirt and sometimes a light canvas old Abercromibie jacket from HS. Sent him up to UB last year with 3 different down jackets- NF, A&F and something else. Kept one up there. Never wore it. Wish my son would even consider a new heavier jacket.

Awaiting NYsmile and then will send the link to my son. HAve a feeling that two zippers (lining and outer layer) will be too much for my lazy son!!

Style and brand oblivious DS has had a Spyder 3 in 1, from Sierra Trading Post, now in 3rd season. I think only uses the outer shell with a hoodie. Offered to buy him a new jacket and he said ‘why?’ Went from very dry mountain west to pretty wet east coast. Refused rain jacket. Says he uses the outer shell when it rains. Did ask me to send the hood part of the jacket that he’d left behind so I know he does notice it when it rains…

Have been very happy with the quality, and although not common, I think it’s not considered dorky on campus…

My daughter has always valued looks over comfort - she is a clothes addict! However, she has become more rational since moving from CA to PA for school. I laughed when she called me and told me how cold it was at 45 degrees-lol!!! She finally broke down and bought a long coat that has served her well thru the cold winter. But then before her birthday she told me she needed a short style warm jacket and that EVERYONE there has North Face. The one she wanted, the NF Padma bomber jacket was $250-YIKES!!! I told her to keep looking but then a week later googled it and found it at Macys marked down to $119 with free shipping. It was a great birthday surprise and she loves it.

Just bought a mountain hardware down coat for son at REI on sale. Regularily $350 marked down to $189. He loves it. Although for next year we are in park city Utah right now and he says it is great. They only had black and brown but said website might have more colors/sizes

My child in Boston ditched her down filled Michael Kors coat from Costco (too warm), and gets by with her (my!!!) NF down parka and fake leather/fake shearling Via Spiga bomber style jacket which I picked up at the Rack a couple of months ago.

I’m sorry, I can’t help myself, the company is Mountain Hardwear not Mountain Hardware.
