This is truly a terrible story. But as a born and bred NYer, I really have to say that this is an exception! If your D still has the receipt from the car service, perhaps she can report the number of the car. The fact that she couldn’t find a yellow cab is pretty odd, considering that what bwy (above post) said it absolutely true. For everyone: New York has 311 phone service which is a great way for everyone to find any information. When in doubt, call 311 for help.

dramama,

I am glad that Hopstop.com helped! I will tell my D. After reading all of this, I think that when we get her a new phone this summer we will consider the GPS factor. She has done a great job navigating NYC this year, but she just told me that she got lost on the subway last week after an audition (Chava in Fiddler On the Roof - we will see if she gets it - 5 callbacks!), so I think that will at least make ME FEEL BETTER. Montclair State has an award winning program on campus which involves a Sprint phone with GPS that is set up with the campus police. They have all a student’s info, including a photo, and if the student ever feels insecure walking around campus or even in the city, whatever, they can send a message to the police, tell them where they are and where they are headed, and if the student doesn’t re-check in with the police within like 10 minutes, they will go and find them. Isn’t that great? I just wish my D ALWAYS carried her “Montclair” cell - she has another one, and I think the Montclair cell gets left behind sometimes.

Yes, dancersmom, it is ironic that our “screen names” are almost identical and also our “real” names!!

bump - for my daughter that will traveling to NYC on Wednesday - Thanks!
