<p>My son just completed his freshman year in Mech Eng here at UR so he hasn’t gotten to taking Engineering courses yet except for the intro class. He chose UR over other schools because he felt he fit best at UR and connected with the other students. He was accepted to a high ranked STEM school but just didn’t see himself spending 4 years there. </p>
<p>UR is not a top 10 or top 20 engineering school except probably in Optical engineering. The ME dept is small, about 50 students a year. I don’t know anything about EE. Students interested in research are often drawn to UR since there are opportunities for undergrads. </p>
<p>You might want to read over this thread where a student who graduated in 2010 did post. You are right that all programs that are ABET accredited are similar as they all must meet the same standards. </p>
