UC 1-YEAR TRANSFERS

Thanks. I was sure of that too, but I guess the 1 year transfers had the credits to be a junior. This is off the OP’s topic, but I know of someone who was at a UC in the freshman year and then went to a cc in the sophomore year. The person just got admitted to UC Berkeley as a transfer for the junior year after spending freshman year at a UC and sophomore year at cc.

@UCBUSCalum No, I did not accomplish this by college credits for AP classes passed, but rather I finished 72.5 semester units within one year. Yes, I also know someone who did what they call a “reverse transfer.”

@Asifion and any other incredible one-year transfers out there:

So curious how the one year transfer process works?

and how do you get the 30 credits needed by the Fall to apply?

The ones I know all have some AP credits plus they start accumulating CCC credits in HS. Usually as a 12th grader. A lot of “Berkeley or bust” kids that I know that have 3.4, 3.5, 3.6 type of unweighted GPAs who realize pretty early on that they aren’t going to get into Berkeley (or other UCs) but can do so via the transfer route.

@spiritualgift There is no minimum amount of credits you need to apply to UC (unless you want to do TAG), you just need to have completed 60 semester units by the end of your spring semester.

For me, I had 27 units from a combination of AP and dual enrollment college course going in. I took 17 units during the fall, 6 during the winter, and 18 right now for spring.

However, it should be noted that the 1-year route only really works well for non-STEM majors. I’m not sure about the specifics but some STEM majors have strict requirements that can only be finished in 2 years.

@spiritualgift I went to my CC counselor in May before I graduated HS to layout what classes exactly I needed to take. I had 16 units from AP, took 7 in the summer, 16 fall, 9 winter, 21 spring. But I total up to 60 UC-TRANSFERRABLE units because I competed on the Forensics team from Fall to Spring and the 3-unit required class for it is only CSU-transferable and not UC.

@spiritualgift I took 30 sem units in the Fall by enrolling in two CCC, since they wouldn’t let me overload first semester. This Spring, however, I overloaded with 30 sem units in my main CCC with a 4 online classes at Foothill. I wouldn’t recommend doing something like I did if you are a CS or Engineering major, but if you are then definitely have lots of APs and CC courses done in high school and the summer.

@spiritualgift I had about 16 quarter units in AP tests, took 13 units in the summer, 18 in the fall, 23 in the winter, and 20 in the spring which gets me to exactly 90 quarter units. I also overloaded at my main CCC so I am also a full-time student at my main CCC’s sister college.

@jedenic no way… I’m a one year transfer from Mt. Sac as well!! Are u interested in meeting up

@killahmoves um Yes?!?!? I’ll message you.

I see that more UC’s are starting to allow Spring semester transfers. This should ease the pressure on students wanting to transfer after only 1 year. Transferring in January instead of August isn’t as long of a wait compared to waiting a full year if the initial transfer is rejected.

Hey!

I am a one-year transfer also! How many semester/quarter units do you guys all have?

@davidls 65/97 units. But included in this were AP credit as well. Hope this helps

Wow, more people to share the pain with! I got like 24 units from AP credit, then I took 8 in the summer, 20 in Fall, 8 Intersession, 20 Spring. Completed all major prep and IGETC for my major.

EDIT: Semester Units, tho I think conversion to quarter is x1.5
