I do think it is interesting that students are to report a UC-GPA in the application (correct me if I am wrong here), and that there are many calculators and instructions all geared toward helping a student do so. If it is only one factor and not the most important one, why not make it easy and have the students report all their A-G courses and weighted 10-12 GPA (which is already on a CA transcript)? Then, the UCs can go do their own supplemental/sensitivity analyses of various GPA sub-types (e.g. UC capped) on the back end? For OOS (I can give several examples), they ask the students to derive these school-specific GPAs, and then they use them as the primary GPA for admissions decisions, and for a reason. Why have a cap, and then also not have a cap?
No, students donât do that. They enter their courses and grades, and report which courses are UC Honors and AP. The three UC GPAs are then computed by UC.
got it, thanks!
I appreciate your reply. My sons counselor said they donât rank, so likely they may not participate with the ELC. I was just confused as they did send the email asking him to apply to Merced (Riverside?) a few months ago. We shall wait and see.
Thanks very much.
Sure. I should have been more clear, I meant a four year undergraduate program(spieker) like other business schools.
If you want to see how courses and grades are reported to UC in the application, you can create a pretend account and try it out yourself
You might also be interested in looking at this slideshow made by UC for use by counselors. The detailed discussion of how to report an applicantâs academic history (courses and grades) starts on slide 35, but there is also good information at the beginning of the slideshow about how applications are reviewed. https://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/counselors/_files/documents/presenting-yourself-on-the-uc-application-first-year.pdf
There was an article in the San Francisco Chronicle that said Merced (& Iâm assuming also Riverside) sent those emails to all CA students who applied to other campuses, but not Merced or Riverside.
Thank you for the clarity! Appreciate it.
I wouldnât assume that. My Dâs high school doesnât rank either and they do in fact participate in ELC.
ELC is not determined by current ranking. Please see post above.
same. no official ranking. but yes ELC
