***UC Berkeley Class of 2020 Applicant Discussion***

@hiddenfalls i got that e-mail just now

I applied for EECS @Undercovermom1

Will not doing the alumni scholarship essays affect my chances of admission at all? I received the rec letter requests

I didn’t get any email :o

Got an email talking about fall programs

Didn’t get it, I applied for EECS

@graceann I’m guessing only those who applied for L&S got that email. I didn’t get it either and I applied for Engineering too.

That makes me feel so much better thank you! @smartypants57

@Ko113g3B0und I would guess not - the two seem pretty distinct.

I also didn’t get it and I applied for engineering.

It was just for L & S. Deep breaths everyone and good luck!

@graceann I don’t know if anyone replied to you yet, about acceptance rates for OOS and EECS, but OOS is certainly harder to get in than for instate kids. I’d say it affects chances significantly for most majors within Berkeley except for the college of engineering. For example getting into Berkeley is a 15-16% chance for out of state it would be like 3-5 percent lower than that and have a higher overall statistical profile in terms of scores and grades. EECS in the college of engineering has a 9.7% acceptance rate according to Google. Out of state students have a 9.7% chance at EECS just as in state students because it is very selective. Another thing to keep in mind is the 9.7% is from 2014 so it may be lower now.

What does that email mean? I got it too :x

@francis1788 I’m pretty sure it’s closer to 8.5% now. I’m so worried!

@Lovehate420 Nothing really – everyone who applied L&S got it.

My son got the FPF email. Someone posted last week or so that a UCB admissions rep told him decisions have been made already (so no need to add info to his application)… so, this FPF email could be a good indicator. Be hopeful!

Don’t worry so much I think essays are a huge factor as well as recommendations

Yes, FPF email did state the program is for students going into L&S only.

I got the email also

@kornido don’t put too much stock into it though - it seems that most, if not all, applicants to L&S got that email.
