***UC Berkeley Class of 2020 Applicant Discussion***

If you apply for a major in the engineering department and are a strong candidate but not quite strong enough for engineering, does UCB admit people as undeclared like how UCSD does, or does it just result in an outright rejection like how UCLA does things?

Waitlisted today at UCLA and Pomona College, praying and hoping that Berkeley pulls through. Berkeley has been my dream school for as long as I can remember.

@2ne1islife tbh don’t give up on it just yet. That was my experience but I know plenty of people that love it. Honestly, just surround yourself with good people and you’ll have an amazing time

thinking about what I could have done differently in high school will be the death of me. I put in my all and put in all those hours of homework just to be rejected by my dream school i was working towards freshman year. Makes me feel like all my hard work has gone to waste. They truly did miss out on me. UCB please be kind to me.

@sarale Same. It doesn’t help that I’m pinpointing one specific test that I didn’t do very well on due to my apathy, and acting like that is the sole reason I didn’t get accepted. Damn that SAT II Math test…

I feel like I should have applied to ucla majors that were more stats oriented - dma is hella dependent on portfolio, and apparently mine was not good enough :confused: (or I should’ve spent more time on my portfolio… Either way.)

Also got rejected by UCLA… I didn’t really want to go there anyways because of the location, and Berkeley has always been my #1 school. But now after being waitlisted at UCSD and rejected from UCLA, I’m losing all hope. The only other school I really want to go to is UMichigan but I still haven’t heard back and I’m 90% sure that I’m getting rejected from there too… (I applied to the business program and it’s super difficult to get into). So basically if I don’t get into Berkeley, I’m dropping out of high school :frowning:

@neta427 what are your stats?

@lyannastark where do you live?

all we can do is wait

@Kasami same! I got deferred from yale! Do you know what the chances are of getting in? Also i got rejected from northwestern which is such a bummer. Where else did you apply?

Did anyone else get an email from Berkeley about Fall Program for Freshman (FPF)??? What is this exactly (cuz the email seemed pretty vague) and is there any advantage of being a part of this? But of course IF I somehow miraculously get into Berkeley and get accepted into this program ahaha

Like @sweetcottoncandy, I got an email about Fall Program for Freshmen. I’m a little surprised that the students here aren’t jumping around and over-analyzing whether it’s an indicator of admission (meant in the most loving way possible, of course). For what it’s worth, I was accepted to UCLA, and Berkeley requested LORs from me.

@dr0wning I got accepted to UCLA and was requested LORs from Berkeley too! I actually kind of threw that question about FPF because I also wondered why there was no ‘hype’ about it… Does anyone think that the email might indicate something? Or it’s just a mass email that was sent to all applicants?

I got waitlisted at UCLA… I hope this doesn’t kill my chances at Berk

I also got the FPF email. I was rejected from Davis, SD, and LA, so I don’t think it means much.

I got waitlisted at UCLA… Do you guys know anyone who was waitlisted at UCLA but accepted to Berk?

I didn’t receive that email and I was rejected from ucla and Davis for mech E… Maybe there’s more to that letter than it seems

So some people didn’t get the FPF email?

For all who feels unsettled about getting rejected/waitlisted from UCLA, one of my good friends at Berkeley was flat out rejected from UCLA but was then waitlisted and accepted to Berkeley. So stay hopeful!

As for the academic environment, it really isn’t as scary as many depict it, but it does depend on major.

(I am a student at Berkeley stalking the thread for my little sister.)
