UC Berkeley Fall 2020: Transfer Thread

I would think it would make a difference. Especially if you can get a 4.0 for Fall semester.

Major: EECS
GPA: 4.00
Major GPA: 4.00
UC GPA: 4.00
Extracurriculars: none except for internship… I’ll work on it this fall…
Job/Work Experience: Programming internship at my school
Personal Insight Questions: I believe it will be okay. I have a couple of things to talk about.

Ethnicity: East Asian/South Korean
Gender: Male
Strengths: Really passionate about CS. Unlike many other CS majors I’ve encountered, I am not in this for the money, and I genuinely enjoy studying the field. I love mathematics, and I am also more inclined towards theoretical aspect of computer science.
Weaknesses: Currently, ECs. Besides my internship, I literally have nothing else to list for the ECs. I’ll work on it this fall.
Applying to what schools? UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UCI, UCD(TAG)

I decided to take a gap year and I ended up taking some classes at Berkeley over the summer and I was wondering if someone could give me some advice.

I’m an Econ Major with a GPA on the lower side, think 3.0-3.5 and I took stat 21w and Econ100a this summer and I did surprisingly well, a 2.85 so I’ll be able to declare. I was wondering if anyone did something similar using summer sessions and could share their application experience with me.

Major: Electrical Engineering & Computer Science OR L&S CS (Not sure yet)
GPA: 3.81
Major Prep GPA: 3.7
IGETC: Completed by Spring
Pre-Reqs: 2 required in progress for Spring, along with some recommended

  1. Tutor For CCC Math Department
  2. Volunteering at Retirement Community for 100 hours
  3. Software Internship at Silicon Valley Semiconductor Company
Applying to: UCLA, UCB, UCD, UCSB, UCI, UCM, UCR, and UCSD

How sure/unsure should I be of my chances?

Hey all  I’m a current Senior at Cal and a former transfer. If you have any questions feel free to message me.

Hi everyone!!

UCB is one of my top choices:)

California Community College Student

Major: Either Poli Sci or Media Studies

GPA: 3.84
Major GPA (for both): 4.0

IGETC: Done except for Math (will take in Spring 2020)
Major Prep: Done

Currently have 46 transferable units completed, 15 in progress for Fall 2019, and about 10-15 planned for Spring 2020

Full-time job
Political Internship during my first year of CC
UCB TAP member
Deans List multiple times

Insight questions: I believe they are strong; I cover an array of topics/challenges I have overcome.

As of now, I think that my biggest downfall is that I will not have my Math class completed when my application is evaluated.

Other UCs I’m applying to are UCLA, UCSB, and UCSD

● Psychology major
● 4.0/4.0 GPA
● IGETC and prereqs complete in Spring 2020
● ECs: honors program, honors society, student government, officer in premed club
● No job experience but many volunteer/community service hours, full-time student
● School: CC in socal
● Strengths: ECs, GPA trend and stability, associates degree, President’s list, TAP certified
● Asian female
● Applying to: UCB (top choice), UCLA (tap), UCSB (tag), UCSD

My biggest concern right now are my personal insight questions. I’m primarily writing about how the honors program/society helped remold me into a healthier student and my involvement in student gov. I want to tie my positions in gov/premed club with psychology and how it helps with my leadership. Really looking for feedback and insight!

You should talk to a Berkeley rep regarding that 1D situation (I’m assuming that’s MATH 1D?). In theory, a retaken equivalent class will replace the previous class in GPA calculations if the old grade was a D+ or worse, but it gets complicated especially if you go between semester and quarter systems. I personally know someone who was erroneously rejected from Davis because admissions didn’t throw out the old grade when they should have.

Unfortunately, Berkeley Engineering has a hard grade cutoff of 3.5. If your major GPA is above 3.5 or if there are extenuating circumstances, they encourage you to send them an email, else your application will be automatically screened out. If you expect that to be the case, I’d personally save the application fee and not apply.

Hey everyone, I’m currently transferring after one year at a CSU followed by one year at a CCC. Here are my stats incase anyone would like to chance me
Major: Applied Mathematics
GPA: 3.6
TAP: no
Major Prereqs: Will have all lower div pre reqs done by spring
ECs: Full time collegiate track athlete (At CCC), Tutor in highschool, work at Apple store, AI club, Math club, Google research project, custom built neural network as a side project, and clubs from highschool
IGETC: should be complete by spring 2020, but maybe short one or two courses
Hooks: not much, but full time collegiate track athlete hoping to talk to the Cal track coach for any scholarships, and I could possibly use my brief research stint with Google.
Applying to: All UCs except merced, Cornell, UW, purdue, nyu, cal poly slo
To anyone out there please be super honest with my chances and no sugarcoating

If I’ll be having over 60 units by the end of fall semester, can I still apply to UCB as junior transfer? Even though some classes will not be transfer for sure since I’m coming from a CSU.

Yes, you will be applying as a junior transfer.

You could have 100 units and still apply, you would come in with 70 max units.

Hello All

I transferred to UC Berkeley Fall 2018, so if anyone has any questions feel free to ask me! BTW, I’m finishing up my studies in Poli-Sci/Pub Pol. And can answer a lot of questions regarding the L&S department in particular. Also I wanted to clarify something- just because your gpa falls below the average that is published on Cal’s website should not deter you from applying! My transfer gpa was dismal at best and yet here I am. Good luck on your applications, Fiat Lux!

Major: EECS
GPA: 4.0
Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): None
Job/Work Experience: None (Trying to get an internship for Spring or Summer)
Volunteer/Community service: None
Personal Statement: Probably bad

Applied for Financial Aid?: No
School Type: CCC
Gender: Male
Hooks (URM, first generation college, research, etc.): First gen college

Strengths: Good at school
Weaknesses: No EC, bad essays

Applying to what schools?

I realize that a lack of EC doesn’t look good, but hopefully I can land an internship during the Spring or Summer.
