Man, can’t believe I got $0 in grants. UC Santa Cruz had at least offered me $5,400. Cal offered me $12500 in student loans, how nice of them lol.

@UCWinner nice, 3.8! congrats on UCB :slight_smile:

Does anyone else’s financial aid page show $0 in gifts and waivers? I get financial aid and filled out fafsa, I was wondering if they show the aid on a rolling basis, or if I did something incorrectly.

@jjonah15 Mine does as well, only thing that shows up are student loan offers

Does anyone have an idea of what the acceptance rate was this year?

@transfer201831 I’m in Pomona, CA :slight_smile: wbu? Also can you link me to the Facebook page?

To those of you wondering about housing in Berkeley–get on it ASAP. Housing is horrible in Berkeley and they do not guarantee housing through the school. As far as I know they don’t have a specific transfer dorm, but they do have nice living accommodations like the Martinez commons (if you can snag a spot).
My friend ended up not getting on campus housing and she had to scramble to find roommates and an apartment last minute.

@thecolorblue Thank you! I’m currently leaning towards Berkeley as the economics program there is stronger than the economics program at LA. However, I do like that UCLA has a much happier atmosphere (more relaxed, great food, in LA) and a stronger transfer community (transfer dorms, greater presence, etc). Ultimately I think it comes down to going to a school that will be better for me career-wise or going to a school that will make me happier. I don’t think I would be able to live with myself if I chose to go the easier route (not saying UCLA is academically easier, but it would be an easier fit/wouldn’t have to adapt as much) rather than going down the harder route that will give me a greater chance of success. If I went to Berkeley I would be majoring in economics with a minor in data science which is a particularly valuable combination - especially in the Silicon Valley.

@dingerdongo Messaged.

Anyone has opened an Appeal thread? If so, please link me there, thank you!

Guys how do I create my CALNET ID? I can only login in through MAP. I’ve accepted the offer but it didn’t even ask me to deposit the $250??

@araiko wow your story is awesome and encouraging.!!
Can I ask how many withdrawals you got?

@thecolorblue Congratulate your admission!! and your posting is really helpful to me!!
Did you have some W’s in your script? then how many did you have ?? I am little bit worrying about my 4 W’s in my script…

Hi everyone!

How do I go about creating a CalNet ID? It seems like some people already had one, but I was never prompted to create one or given information in regard to it. Do I need to SIR first?

Also, is anyone troubled with the idea of finding housing? I don’t even know where to start or how to go about doing any of that. I’m afraid the semester is going to approach before I know it and I’ll be left to scramble for roommates and a place. :confused:

Any help is appreciated!

Hey guys! First time poster

For future applicants:
Accepted!
Honestly surprised, didn’t expect to get in
Major: Sociology
GPA: 3.76
ECs: Virtually non-existent; played a sport while at CC and had a part-time job (but had to give up my shift due to conflicting schedules) but that’s pretty much it
Essays: I have no other explanation as to why I got in other than my essays. This is not to say they were excellent by any means, I just think that they played a significant role in why I was admitted. They basically explained my whole entire community college experience and all the struggles that I went through (I had 6 Ws and an F at one point…), many of which I felt I had brought upon myself. Those of us that go through struggles with mental health understand how debilitating it can be at times and a lot of times it gets worse before it gets better. That’s basically what happened to me, I dropped out of a bunch of classes and stopped going to class all together at one point; like I couldn’t get myself out of bed. I was on the verge of dropping out of school. (TW: IF YOU ARE EASILY TRIGGERED, PLEASE STOP READING!) I actually developed disordered eating patterns within my second semester which manifested into physical symptoms and negatively affected my health throughout my time at CC. After my first year and a half, I hit rock bottom and from there it all got better. I TALKED to someone about what I was going through (please, if your struggling with any mental illness, talk to someone instead of keeping it bottled up inside like I did, it really does help) and I wish I could say I was 100% better afterwards but that wasn’t the reality. Instead, it gave me hope and the reassurance I needed to keep going and not give up on myself (a little corny lol, but it’s true). Those that do struggle with this kind of messed up stuff or anything else that makes you feel ashamed or disappointed in yourself, just remember that you aren’t alone and that everyone goes through some pretty bad times. But these bad times don’t define you, it’s how you choose to act on them that does. And I think this is where it kind of clicked because I realized that I wasn’t just going to quit, I had something to prove to myself now. Tbh I wasn’t thinking or worrying about getting into any school through the rest of my time at CC and I feel like this helped tremendously. Just focused on getting good grades from that point on and I did and as a result there was a huge upward trend in grades (went from a 2.6 GPA to 3.76). In my essays, I related this upward trend in grades to my mental health struggles and how fighting to overcome them had fueled my passion for wanting to learn again. I also tied this into the two areas of academic interest I was interested in studying (psychology and sociology).

Sorry I wrote my whole life story lol, but I just wanted to post to show that Berkeley looks at applications HOLISTICALLY; if your GPA isn’t exactly on par or your ECs aren’t good, still apply! If you have some background or difficult circumstances that you’ve overcome or are still battling, relate these to your academic interests and why you want to continue to pursue them at a 4-year college. In no way am I trying to discredit those who work hard to achieve a 4.0 GPA and participate in as many ECs as possible because that is an amazing feat in itself, but I think that this is the type of diversity Berkeley (as well as other universities) seeks out. They want a mixture of ALL types of students, all types of backgrounds, and all types of experiences. So don’t count yourself out! You didn’t come this far to only come this far!

Yes absolutely get on housing as soon as possible, especially if you’re going to live off campus! There’s no housing transfer guarantee and you’ll most likely need roommates to live off campus. Several roommates.

Don’t wait until May 31st to SIR is all I’m saying
