UC Davis Class of 2030 Official Thread

What have been some favorite parts of UC Davis and what have been some challenging aspects?

My oldest is at another UC so we have more of a sense of the positives of an UC experience and challenges of a UC experience this time around for our current applicant.

Faves - Well, UCD is a really pretty campus (especially in the spring) and also huge (the largest by size)- (which has also been challenging) - I definitely recommend a bike if your student ends up there. But the bike barn on campus is great and they love the bike culture (though e-bikes/e-scooters are a totally different story and seem to be universally hated). There’s a really cool bowling alley on campus, and the food trucks are also a plus. The Arboretum - so awesome + campus cats (our kid loves cats!) They enjoy the laid back culture, their major isn’t competitive so maybe that is part of it, but the students seem pretty low key and nice, no matter the college.

Challenges - for our student its been mainly the food, since they are mostly vegetarian, (although unlike other UC’s, students can swipe in and out as many times a day as they want!) and being in a TINY triple, as you can imagine. Since you’re already a UC parent you know the challenges of getting classes, housing, etc, pretty standard UC experience but sometimes tough to navigate.

As a parent I’m enthusiastic about Davis and it’s been a great experience on our end - move in day was really neat and I think they did a great job with orientation. Our student has been able to make friends and find community so that helps.

Good luck to your kid! Go Aggies!

Happy Davis Decision Eve to all who celebrate.

My D26 was told by a friend UCD posted this today on social media (can’t confirm source, I’m deliberately social media incompetent).

Not sure if this is legit but don’t they generally release such info only after all decisions are announced and not before?

I couldn’t find it anywhere, but that doesn’t mean much either.

Agree. I thought very strange. Just sharing what I was sent.

The statistical data information posted is from 2024 admissions since the waitlist numbers match the 2024 CDS.

Definitely does not make sense

nice, thanks for clarifying!

is today the D day?

Based on the previous year’s decision date pattern, it is predicted but not confirmed. All anyone can do is wait and see.

Also, my understanding is that UC Davis releases decisions in waves. So while decisions may start arriving today or tomorrow, not receiving a decision does not mean much. It may take some time.

No, UCD posts all decisions on the same day.

When UCD pulls from the waitlist, those decisions are done in waves.

@caparent2 My son is 2nd year at UCD and would like to echo @islandmama1 re: the faves and am also positive re: UCD.

Additionally, off campus housing is abundant & affordable, so my son was able to get a 4 BD/2 BA place with 3 friends in mid-to-late Feb. UCD has a Parent & Family Council that holds vitual coffee chats monthly, parent pop ups around CA and at UCD, that are really helpful.

I had posted this re: our UCD campus visit after Aggie Day Open House April 2024 - https://talk.collegeconfidential.com/t/uc-davis-campus-visits-share-your-tips-recommendations/3630120/3?u=pathandpurpose . Caveat that there has been turnover in both the Chair of Dept and Undergraduate Advising since then.

Best of luck to your kid HS ‘26!

I think they posted something on social media confirming that they are releasing today.

Sort of, they said releasing decisions “soon”. The usual non-specificity.

I am definitely thinking 3 pm though.

@btra is correct. Very vague about when decisions will post

If UC Davis posts Freshman decisions today, please fill out the Decision template.

Also if waitlisted, there is a separate discussion for Waitlisted and Appeals here: UC Davis Class of 2030 Waitlist and Appeals Discussion

Best of luck to applicants.
