Son got into CSE major at UCI on May 2nd and to CS in UCSB on May 3rd (both off the waitlist). In state from the Bay Area. Currently committed to UF CS OOS. Costs are similar so we are confused as to where he should go as there doesn’t seem to be a clear choice between the three. Still waiting on a few more waitlists but these are our current options.

if hardware courses are not of much interest that should rule out UCI. Academics at UCSB and UF are comparable, so you can choose based on fit.

He is not completely sure if hardware courses are not of interest. He can probably switch to the pure CS option in UCI if they turn out to be not of interest? He did apply to CSE as his first choice in UCI and was assigned that.

Flying to/from UF definite costs more than flying to/from So Cal. Also, weather is nicely in CA (according to my coworker who grow up in Florida).

Is BS/MS Combined Degree important? The tie breaker could be which school has a better/flexible MS program if he chooses to continue.

For example, my friend’s son who went to UCLA for BS CSE decided he wants to focus in AI research (a CS focus) in Junior year. So, instead of switching to CS, he found the exceptional student admissions program that allows him to earn BS in CSE and MS in CS in 5 years. This may be unique to UCLA because most 4+1 programs don’t consider CSE and CS are “similar” or may be they are not majors from the same department.

Anyone know of anyone taken off the waitlist as Undeclared? Not sure if it’s very realistic to get off as undeclared.

Son’s friend got off waitlist pharmaceutical 5/2 in-state.
So the list was moving.
But he also got something else so likely the spot will be released to the pool again.

Do we know when appeals decisions were released last year?

There is no specific timeline for appeal decisions but last year most students heard back Mid to the end of May.
