UC IRVINE Fall 2020 Transfer Thread

Got this same copy and paste message through the live chat function. I’m devastated and disappointed with UCI and I feel so cheated because of this.

My Major didn’t change thank goodness, its still biological sciences

I was admitted for electrical engineering and then it changed to computer science and engineering. I got the same response from the admissions chat online.

Same here!!!

Was that your alternate major?

That’s weird CSE is a lot more competitive than EE

Same for me. Accepted as Aerospace but changed to Applied Physics. If this was the case, I would have applied to a different engineering major as my secondary and risked not getting accepted rather than being accepted for a major in a completely different school.

Yes it was my alternate major.

I just thought it was funny how Applied Physics isn’t your primary major despite your username haha

@Skister yikes I’m sorry I never heard of anyone getting into alternate majors for UCs so I’m quite surprised I thought it was a black and white acceptance or rejection kind of thing

I played myself for sure. Didn’t think I would get accepted to a secondary major as I’ve rarely seen transfers from prior years have issues getting into their first choice. I don’t even mess with physics tbh just applied because I met the reqs.

Accepted yesterday, received an email at 5:01 lol
GPA- 3.5 maybe? not too sure since I attended UCSD before transferring to a CC so i dont know how to combine both GPAs sorry…
TAG- no
First Choice Major- Asian American Studies
I applied to UCB, UCLA, UCI, and USC.
Was rejected by UCB and waiting on UCLA and USC!
Hopefully everyone on here gets good news!!! Good luck.

Yeah I also applied as Applied Physics as my alternate but my portal still says Electrical Engineering so I got lucky

Ive never seen alternate majors get accepted and seeing how some people got in for a more competitive alt major it makes no sense

I’ve been doing some thinking on how they potentially choose who gets what. I’m pretty sure you have more major reqs done compared to me. I have 3 major reqs + 1 additional course this semester. Because of this, it’ll be harder for them to admit me to my major compared to others that have finished more. I believe they prioritize # of classes taken compared to GPA.

I got admitted yesterday to the BA psychological science major, my back up was just the BA in psychology, but it still shows psychological science for me.

The one mistake, however, is they show that I have a “conditioned course” in English, putting that I have a C. That is false, I already finished that class and got an A, it was on my transcript when I applied so I’m not sure where they even got that from. I emailed them but haven’t heard back yet.

Did any admitted folks have to pay the $250 SIR fee? I accepted my application but didn’t see anywhere to pay the fee. It’s making me nervous, lol.

Because it is a conditioned course, I’m pretty sure that the letter grade next to it is the grade you need to at least get. Under mine, it shows one of the classes I’m taking so it wouldn’t make sense.

A ‘C’ grade is the minimum you need in that English class. It is not representative of the grade you received. It just means that is the grade that is required of you in order to meet the contract requirements to maintain admission eligibility.

Did anyone else get admitted as an Informatics major?

Can you provide a link to where you found that CSE is more competitive than EE? I found UCLA’s stats that show this but I can’t find any for UCI.

I got my alternate major for UCSC. Seems like they’re actually pretty big on it
