UC makes landmark decision to drop ACT and SAT requirement for admission

Really no big deal since: 1) UC was already test optional; 2) UC was already in process of eliminating the use of SAT/ACT. In other words, the court ruling just accelerated #2 by a couple of years.

UC seems to want to find some other test to use instead long term. Historically, UC seems to have been not too satisfied with the SAT and ACT, but used them because they were the default tests that are widely available.

Of course, coming up with its own test has its own issues, such as availability to out-of-state applicants. Also, test prep companies will help students prep for the new test, and parents with money will readily pay for such test prep for their kids.
