Several posters have noted that the portal is glitchy.
I guess. But it doesn’t fill me with confidence about UC Merced.
Could be a temporary glitch. Mine had issues yesterday and after a while it worked fine. The decisions are out and we could see the decision in the main page. Try again
Believe me, other UC’s have had trouble with their student portals including UCLA and UCI over the last few years
We are getting bad weather here in Central and Northern California with power outages due to high winds. This may not be an issue with UC Merced specifically but just with the surrounding area.
Not a lot of traffic in this thread. Looks like people aren’t much into UC Merced. UCSC thread was rocking yesterday, when the decisions came out.
The rankings for UC Merced have improved recently. It is now #60 in the UC News national rankings, and UCSC is at #82. Any idea why people prefer UCSC despite its lower rank? Is it the location?
The decisions page on the UC Merced portal is still not loading, by the way. I’ve been trying.
Location for many students is an issue along with the preconceived idea of it being a lower prestige UC and having a high acceptance rate especially since it is the ELC deferral campus.
This link is worth reading about what UC Merced has to offer: https://talk.collegeconfidential.com/t/a-very-honest-opinion-on-uc-merced-from-a-uc-merced-skeptic-2022/
According to the UC Merced IT Page, they were doing maintenance on the system for the upcoming Decisions yesterday until 11 PM PST. As now, it states all systems are operational but it may take some time to catch up???
got in for mech engineering like 1 hour ago
OOS DS24 did not get any email notification, but when I finally logged in to the admission portal, it shows “Congratulations! You are admitted”.
Question: if it says “WUE Porgram: Offered”, does it mean he gets in the WUE program already? or means he is eligible to apply for it?
- Check your portal. You will be notified in your UC Merced Connect portal if you are selected for WUE. Admissions decisions are usually posted in early March.
- Submit your Statement of Intent to Register (SIR). By submitting your SIR you have agreed that you are eligible to participate and will meet the conditions of the WUE program listed on your student portal.
Funny, I was just thinking the opposite. This is the most action I’ve seen on a UCM thread in years.
Because Merced is used as the ELC campus, some students don’t spend the $80 to send their application there. They figure, if they aren’t accepted to another UC, their application will automatically be sent to Merced. That said, if you are applying to a competitive major such as CS, it is always safer to pay to send your application to Merced in November.
Oh wow, that’s it? That makes the OOS tuition inline with the CSUs.

When my older son applied 3 years ago, we could all see what the decisions were for all UCs before they actually posted due to slight changes in the student’s portal page. I don’t know if that still happens but posters here were calling it portal astrology. Cal, UCLA, etc all had those issues.
My daughter got the acceptance as well. We checked via the portal .

Location, campus, and nobody I know really believes the school deserves that ranking. US News changed their rankings a few years ago and this is one of the schools that benefitted from the new criteria. QS seems much more accurate to me, and Santa Cruz is a top 75 US school in QS.
I asked my son to apply because it says that your major is not guaranteed for ELC. I thought it was better not to risk it.
