<p>My son is a biology(neuroscience and physiology) major in ERC. He loves it there although it was not his first choice. You really do need to look at the GE requirements of each school and see which works best for you. ERC does have a lot of writing in the Making of the Modern World requirement, but so far my son is enjoying it. As far as the living arrangements, ERC has newer dorms that are very nice. The various towers are arranged around a grass quad area, so you will see people from other dorms on a regular basis. There is a large dining hall located at one end of the quad and so far he is very happy with the food. Your meal plan includes the option to eat at any college on campus, so if you get sick of the ERC food, you can go elsewhere. The gym is located less than a 5 minute walk from the dorms. The beach is visible from his dorm and is about a 15 minute walk (he does a lot of surfing). I don’t know if ERC is more social than other schools but my son has made a great group of friends. He said his entire floor gets along very well and does a lot together- they seem to make a point of making sure no one gets left out. He participates in intramural sports as well as some clubs and is having a blast. </p>
<p>Whatever school you end up applying to, if you are admitted, be sure to submit your housing deposit as soon as you are able to. Most of the schools are running short on housing. Most freshman are in triples this year. It is a tight fit, but doesn’t seem to be an issue for my son. We submitted his housing app the 1st day allowed. Some kids who did not get their deposit in soon enough ended up on a waiting list for housing. Some also ended up accepted to one college, but housed in overflow housing in another college. </p>
