UC San Diego Class of 2030 Official Thread

we are oos. except for teh gpa nothing else we can achieve. we are not from california, not first generation . I do not think pell grant eligible

You can use it for Non-selective majors only.

If that is true then changing majors into a selective major will not be possible.

not fair. As an oos we need to pay 80K but not allow to study what we want. so discouraging for my child.

Unfortunately this is common at competitive publics across the country for both instate and out of state students - I’ve seen similar complaints at others. The common wisdom is that if you wouldn’t be happy with the major you (your child) has been accepted into it would be better to go elsewhere where you have that admit.

UCSD recently changed their selective major criteria. There are many unhappy students about the major change process.

Changing into UCSD’s selective majors has always been a very difficult process but more so now.

My daughter’s decision: accepted to marine bio major

UC UW: 3.88

UC capped: 4.14

UC FW: 4.58

ELC don’t know

I am not sure about all the other stats - she had maybe 4 honors courses, 5 or 6 APs and a bunch of CC courses.

No awards but did a lot of marine bio ECs

in state

not first gen

strengths: marine bio ECs

weakness: lower UW GPA

accepted at UCSD, UCSC and waitlisted at UCD, UCSB, UCLA, CSLB and still waiting for UCB, SDSU, Cal Poly SLO (last two are probably rejects or waitlists)

WL which is better than being denied I suppose. :frowning:

D26 waitlisted (we expected this based on the astrology).
In-state, applied to bioengineering.
UC GPAs: 3.97 UW, 4.24 CW, 4.48 FW. 9 APs. ELC: yes.

She is a bit disappointed because UCSD is known for her major, but the silver lining is: “now I don’t have to plan a trip to visit!”

Daughters accepted structural engineering. She’ll be going to Davis. She only wanted Cal Poly SLO.
