Capped Weighted UC GPA: 3.91
Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable):
AP (place score in parenthesis): Computer Science (5), Chinese Language (4), Physics (4) [All from junior year. I wish I had started taking AP classes from the get-go]

Senior Year Course Load: AP Economics, AP Calculus, Chinese 5, American Government, AP Literature
Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.):
Subjective:
Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Engineering Adv Projects, Broadcast journalism, Jazz Band, Math Club

Volunteer/Community service: Cambodian charity organisations (involved in for over 10 years), Chinese school (teaching assistant), fundraising organisation for my district
Summer Activities: volunteer service in cambodia, various coding projects
Essays (rating 1-10, details): 7 - I’m not a spectacular writer, but the subjects I wrote about were unique to me. I wrote about my leadership in Cambodia, my passion for computer science, my political activism (for community service essay) and an academic subject that someone reading my application wouldn’t expect me to enjoy.
Supplemental Review or LOR submission:
Applied for Financial Aid?: Yes
Intended Major: Computer science (either my choice of major or my low number of APs was likely why I was rejected, as the engineering department at UCSB is notoriously competitive)
State (if domestic applicant): CA
Country (if international applicant):
School Type: Public
Gender: Female
Income Bracket: 70k - 90k
ELC Eligibility:
First Generation: No
Reflection
Strengths: STEM grades and activities, volunteer experience, international experience
Weaknesses: low number of AP scores, freshman and sophomore year were not challenging
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Impacted major. Maybe if I had applied to an unpopular major in the arts&sciences college I would’ve been accepted, but I don’t know that. My essays wouldn’t have made sense if I didn’t apply to an engineering major anyway.
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accepted to UC Merced, Stevens Institute of Technology, Seton Hall University. Waitlisted at Georgia Tech. Denied from UT Austin.
General Comments: A little disheartened, because I was optimistic about my chances for an acceptance. To those who were accepted, congratulations! You have been admitted to an incredible school. To the rest of the denial club, remember that the school you end up at is the school you were meant to be at, for one reason or another.
