Feel you, but don’t knock WL! We have rejections to UCD, UCSD, and now UCSB. Only UC acceptance so far is UCSC. And with noting from CPSLO, feeling deflated. He has acceptances (SDSU, Northeastern, CU Boulder, UofO), but feeling less optimistic for the next decisions we’re waiting on. They tend to get harder!

Thanks. Even on reddit, there are a lot. Maybe give us some inside scoop on why admitted so many ..
I applied originally for chemical engineering but didn’t get in, got into pre-chemistry. I’m more interested in civil engineering but this school doesn’t have it, I got waitlisted at UCI for it and am still waiting on Cal Poly SLO. I was just wondering what the best course of action would be if I attend UCSB in the fall (if anyone has insight), I’m willing to work hard throughout the year to get where I want to be, I’m just not sure if it would be better to try and transfer to another school like SLO for engineering or to attempt to get into chemical engineering later down the road and what that would look like. Any advice is appreciated!

Change of major into any Engineering major is not guaranteed so you need to decide if you want to take the chance at UCSB and possibly not get into the Engineering college or go the CC to UC/CSU route. Are you waiting on any other schools? Have you been admitted into any schools for Civil Engineering?
I was admitted to UCR & Cal Poly Pomona, I’m just waiting on SLO and seeing if I get off UCI waitlist. I just want to go somewhere I know I’ll enjoy going, but also I’m not sure if I’m interested in just studying chemistry, I could always transfer from UCSB to somewhere else I just don’t know the likelihood

California community college transfers get priority when transferring to the UC’s over UC to UC transfers so something to consider.
UCSB states the following about alternate majors:
Can I request a change of major?
Yes. The change of major request is not considered an appeal. Depending on when the request is received, approval may not occur until after submitting your Statement of Intent to Register (SIR).
College of Engineering
To request a change of major into a College of Engineering major, students must first submit a SIR. Students may request a change of major into a College of Letters and Science or College of Creative Studies prior to submitting their SIR.
Students who have submitted an SIR may submit a Major Change to Engineering Request Form to provide us with your preferred major should space become available.
A response to your request for an Engineering major change will not be considered until after the SIR deadline when we can assess space availability for the college. We understand that waiting for the decision about changing your major may be stressful, however we must first determine if space remains in the Engineering programs after students who are already admitted into Engineering submit their SIRs.
As a reminder, the SIR deadline to UCSB is due May 1 and if you were admitted, you would need to submit your UCSB SIR with the understanding that a major change into the College of Engineering may not be possible. If you SIR, you should do so with the intent to remain within the College of Letters & Science. Late SIRs will not be considered and your $250 deposit is non-refundable
If space becomes available in my first choice major, will I be automatically considered?
Yes, for first-year freshmen only. If your first choice major was one in the College of Engineering and a space in that major becomes available, you will automatically be considered for that major. There is no need to submit a request to change your major back into that first choice major. You will be notified if a space does become available and you’re offered a spot.
I’m fairly confident that there is no business major at UCSB. Maybe you just meant that he would prefer to attend a school that offers a business major.

So happy!
sorry, you are correct. He’s interested in ‘business’ (finance) but had to settle for UCSBs closest major option - Econ. Each UC has a twist on this and I can’t keep them straight.
UCSB ECE wants to grow the department, from what they’ve told us. Although tbh reddit and CC are not necessarily representative of the entire admitted population.
If he’s interested in finance he could do Financial Mathematics and Statistics
All the homies love guacho engineering. His advice helped me get into ucsb engineering during the last cycle. He’s very involved on campus and we want him to be the next chancellor.
If you’re currently waitlisted do not lose hope bc last year many people got off the waitlist even for engineering. Current seniors do not let college admissions define your self worth. I was really sad around this time last year when I was waitlisted almost everywhere. Make sure you keep your grades up bc I had a few close calls that were not worth the stress. I ended up getting off almost all the waitlists… but it’s different every year.
Congrats to the people who were accepted!
Ucsb exceeded my expectations.
