Hey did anyone get the UCSC regents in their Financial aid page? I just checked and they offered me it, but it was not indicated in their admission email nor the physical mail they sent.
That happened to me too. It shows up under financial aid, but there is nothing else on the portal or in the admissions packet that says you got regents. I just got a congratulations email from them a couple of hours ago that says I got regents and explains the benefits that come along with the scholarship.
Recieved news in the portal today around 5pm. Waitlisted for Psychology with a 3.67 GPA and only 1 missing prereq which I have planned to complete in the summer.
@Herbidot honestly I’d call this a win if you really want to attend UCSC. Psych is a popular major and summer courses aren’t considered for fall applications. Could have easily been a rejection. Good luck with the waitlist.
Applied for TAG for CS but received the same email I’ve seen some people post:
I’m waiting for a response from my school’s transfer rep at UCSC but, in the meantime, I am very confused.
I have a cumulative GPA well above 3.0 and my screened classes are as follows:
(According to the 2018-2019 Catalog which Fall 2020 applicants are permitted to follow)
C++ (and Java), 4 units (each) — A (in both)
Data Structures, 4 units — A
Discrete Structures, 3 units — A
Calc 1, 5 units — C (I had a bad semester...)
Calc 2, 5 units — in progress (but I am doing very well)
Even with the C in Calc 1, my screened classes are above a 2.8 which is what the UCSC website indicates.
Received a waitlist offer this afternoon at 5pm.
I’m a Business Management & Economics major with a 3.8 GPA. Going to write up an appeal and hopefully get it pushed through in the next couple days. Any other feedback/advice regarding this would be appreciated!
Doesn’t make sense why they wouldn’t admit you as CS. I would contact admissions because it definitely looks like you hit all the requirements. I tagged as CS and got in with a 3.1. Didn’t take python at my CC either.
The class is precalculus and I could only fit it for the summer, plus a lot of schools don’t need precalculus so I figured I’d wait and see. I find it interesting that you can input planned classes for summer 2020 in the UC applications, but they don’t look at that at all. It’s like why even ask if youre going to put no weight behind it?
@Herbidot totally agree with you there. Seems like the cut off should be spring since thats the last term they use for calculations. Im guessing its there in case people end up failing classes in summer. Which they would definitely count against you so yeah. Weird
@qrlqode my transfer GPA is little difficult to calculate exactly because I years ago I went to a private school that doesn’t have an articulation agreement so it could be anywhere from 3.2 to 3.5 depending which classes they take — but still more than enough for TAG.
@hoshizora I took Python and received an A. My only ‘bad’ grade for CS-related courses is the C in Calc 1 but that’s not enough to drag me down considering that literally every other CS/Math class I completed with As.
I don’t know, I’ll just have to wait for my transfer rep to get back to me but I’m so depressed I can’t sleep
It doesn’t make any sense. I’ve had the transfer rep at UCSC checking my progress since last fall and he said everything was fine. I was offered admission to the school but not into the CS program and I don’t understand why, I met all the criteria. My CS-related grades have been all As except for the one C, I feel like I"m going insane trying to understand this.
I’m in pretty much the same situation you are, with all A’s in prep courses except a C in Calc 1. But, I just got information from my Transfer Counselor. According to her, my “Intro to Programming” class did not articulate to UCSC. She did mention this when I was applying, however she said that she spoke to an Engineering Adviser and they told me to apply anyways. I’m looking into my options, and am probably going to submit an appeal.
What did your rep tell you about appealing? I’m waiting to hear back from mine. Honestly, I’m wondering if there’s been a mistake because all my prep courses are on the articulation agreement and are well above the 2.8 minimum GPA—and the 3.0 minimum for TAG. I’m very curious what they tell you.
Were you at least offered admission to the school or rejected entirely?
