UC-to-UC Transfer. Did I Just Screw My Chances of Transferring?!

Thanks! I’m happy to report that I have been accepted to UCD for Computer Science and Engineering! :D

I’ve only applied to UCD and UCB. The main reason is that I want live close enough to home so I can visit home and have people visit me as well.

And yep I’ve declared. I was invited to declare my major before I started my first quarter (SoE sent out invites to Video Game Majors, the major I was accepted into at UCSC).I asked the adviser if this would be bad for my chances at transferring and he said they dont look at what you are declared here (you dont even report it on your app). Declaring is a good thing to do (you plan out your schedule which gets looked over by an adviser, ect). You also dont need to tell them youre transferring.

also…EASTMAN IS AMAZING! I had him for 23B and I felt like i learned a lot XD. just take notes, do the homework, and take advantage of his note card of notes.

@Zeo210

Congratulations! That’s really motivating since I wish to do the same thing AND you’re engineering major. I think you have a good chance at UCB as well.

If that’s the case, I think I will declare my major soon as well. It would be nice to have an adviser look over my shoulder and make sure everything is okay.

Haha, I had Eastman last quarter as well. I honestly do not know why I did not receive a B in his class, maybe I bombed the final. What’s done is done though. I will do better this quarter. What do you mean his “note card of notes?”

Thank you. Glad to know that this is motivating news :)

Oops, I should have said note card of notes for his midterms/tests. For 23B he allowed us to use an index card of our own notes for those tests. Idk about his policy for 19B though.

It definitely is! Hopefully that will be me a year from now. I think it’s so crazy how I am going to be applying to transfer this fall already! It’s exciting, yet scary…

Oh! The infamous notecard, haha. Yeah, he let’s us use a 3x5 index card of our notes. Hopefully that’s big enough to write two chapters worth of calculus, hahaha.

Congrats on Davis Zeo. Cal this Friday, it’s going to be a loooong week T__T

If you don’t mind me asking, what’s your GPA? Also, I’m guessing you applied for EECS at Cal?

@Jon, yeah I’m a transfer applicant. I applied for Poli Econ at Cal, I’m doing Econ/Math here in Santa Cruz.

@jongranados

haha, yes it is.

@Maninder

Thanks! and yes it is. DX

My GPA that is shown to the UCs after the Academic update is 3.61. And yup, I’ve applied for EECS. I have my doubts about getting into Cal especially because of the major, but I’ll be fine with whatever decision I get.

It’s a tough major no doubt but there’s no telling until Friday! Are you going to go to Davis if no Cal?

@Jon, I forgot to mention earlier, one of my friends here at UCSC got into UCLA this past Friday so that should serve as hope. :D

Hey, I’m also at UCSC majoring in computer engineering and I was accepted to UCD. I was also accepted to UCSD and the more I think about it, the more I want to stay near the Bay Area so I’m leaning towards UCD at the moment even though I got a bit more scholarships at UCSD.
Anyway I’m taking the physics 6 series at UCSC and I understand that you said it is equivalent to the 9 series at UCD (minus physics 9D of course)? If so, thats a relief! I also took math 21,23a,24 but I’m sure those transfer over nicely. The thing I’m unsure about is that I finished all lower division requirements for my major at UCSC and want to make sure that most of them will transfer, namely CE12, CE13, CE16, & CS12b. I also took CE100 but I don’t know if you took any upper divs from here.

@jongranados: I have received my decision from Cal and I was rejected. So its UCD for me next year! I’m guessing if you want to get to Berkeley you might need to get a higher GPA than me along with the pre-reqs (note if anything is in series like physics 5ABC, then they require you to take them all at a single school. Also they require you to take an UpperDiv writing class to fulfill another requirement there. The classes on their list look to be on the DC ge at UCSC, except lit 1 is on that list).

@12uctransfer: Congrats! And yes, thats what the Transfer Credit Agreement between UCD & UCSC states (note this was from 2008-2009, but I received this information from a dean at UCD in 2011. I’m guessing this only apply to engineering majors since this is an agreement done by the College of Engineering). UCSC doesn’t have a 9D equivalent course based off this sheet.

Each of the math classes do transfer over nicely, just match the names/order so you can figure out which class goes with what.

As for the engineering classes, I dont have much information about it. CMPE 16 matches ECS 20, CMPE 12 matches with ECS 50, and CMPS 12B matches with ECS 60 (on my sheet it says ECS 30, but 60 is the data structures class). As for the upperdiv classes, I have been told they can transfer over and on our credit summaries it states that it does transfer over as well (now to what it is equivalent to, i do not know x.x)

Thanks! UCD has very strange lower-division requirements because they also want us to take a chem class and their equivalent of math 23b (i don’t remember which one) and physics series D for CE majors. I will probably switch to CS so that I’m not left with too many lower-division classes.
Also, I haven’t finished my GE’s at UCSC and UCD seems to have several GE requirements:
Freshman student, or Transfer student* who has not completed TCC or IGETC†
•6 GE courses in topical breadth—3 courses in each of the two subject areas other than your major’s assigned area
• 1 GE course in social-cultural diversity
• 3 GE courses in writing experience
And best case they are saying, if I take the right classes, I can be done with them by taking 6 courses.
I’ll need to speak with advisors about which GE’s I’ve satisfied tomorrow. UC transfers are such huge headaches if you don’t plan it right from the begining.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I just wanted to get an update because I’m in a similar situation.

@jongranados: How’s your GPA right now? We can officially apply to the UCs this month (WOOT!) and I’m applying to UC Davis as a Physics major (prolly with a 3.5). Math 19B just screwed me over with its midterm yesterday so I’m anticipating a B or a C in that class. :(
