you guys…i’ve been reading the other threads about Cal and I’M SCARRED. the negative experiences might make me go to UCSD and not cal…i dunno. the major complaints seem to be:
bad social life/ elitism
dumb ppl( i dont get it either)
competiveness/lack of help
impersonal.
i’m mostly concerned about the SOCIAL LIFE b/c like having friends and i swear if i have no one to talk to and joke around with i will get really depressed. : (

WOOHOOOOOOOOO!!! My bf’s little sister got in to Berkeley!!! WOOHOOO!!! I better tell her to buy her football season tickets asap. Yay, another bear in the family!

friends who go to berkeley have said that it’s tough making real friends there. seems like there are a lot of people there who are academically bright but lack character. but i wonder if ucsd would really be that different for you. i think wherever you go you’ll find a nitch, as long as you don’t hide in your closet between classes.

has anyone looked into the co-op housing? it seems better than apts or dorms. do you think there will be many transfer/ upper division students there?

Some smart people have an annoyingly bad habit of calling other smart people “dumb”. It’s almost as if they expect to see 140+ IQs wherever they go. We’re regular (yet hopefully above average) 19-23 year olds too.

One thing I hope doesn’t come from me getting this acceptance is people treating me different. I was surprised today at how often I saw good friends constantly try to challenge me (or start using million dollar words) as if to prove they are just as good. I hate that.

Yeah I’ve been getting that from classmates. Now I feel like people automatically perceive me as snobby.

Same here for the same reasons. Actually the only reason I’m even preferring Cal over UCLA (didn’t apply) is because even if Cal turns out bad socially, I’ll be living with my gf to keep me sane :)

Now that you mentioned people treating you differently I am sure I will notice a lot of it going on… even if it really isn’t. Nice observaton though.

HOW MUCH HARDER is cal compared to other UC’s? i mean a UC is a UC right? comparatively…whats the diff between a chem class at cal and a chem class at UCI?

btw, it seems like haas accepted more students this year. lots people around me have gotten accepted, and some of them had little volunteering and ECs

I noticed there were a few people who applied as an English major with fairly high GPA’s, 3.7 and 3.9. However, both of these people were accepted for Spring Admission. Does anyone know why?
