lol actually, i’ve already given up. good bye uchicago, it was really nice to know you for a little :')

Applied EA. Good Luck All.

applied EA, but this is the only place I REALLY want to go to so I hope I get in. I have a ton of backups and other matches though so I don’t know

I conducted the interview today. It was very interesting. The interview, as told by the alumni, has little impact on the admission of the admission committee, but rather it’s used primarily to ascertain more about ur personality, interest, and to confirm wats in the folder. Sure, I think the good interview will help, but not much. It’s rather informal, depending on the alumni. I really enjoyed it. If you’re passionate about Uchicago, don’t hesitate to schedule for interview.
This is prolly the last piece that I added to my app. Now I jst wait for the decision to come out. After putting my heart in the application (the essay, etc), I will be really disappointed if I don’t get accepted, which is likely due to increase in applicant pool. Anyway, I wish for you all the luck available

APPLIED EA. So anxious

Just like what boomshakalaka said, passion and enthusiasm is a key for these interviews. I had an interesting UChicago interview and it really went great. It really depends on the interviewer i guess… my interviewer drilled me with controversial questions to see how i would respond and which side i would take… and why. I guess its some kind of logic/argument test. I spent 50 mins arguing with her how Marxism was unreliable and impossible to attain, all at the same time having the interview in a marxist-aligned China!

^ are you sure that they are going to let you out now? ![]()
Good luck!

^ Interesting; I had a similar experience with my Chicago interview. When I divulged my interest in economics, my interviewer asked me surprisingly tough questions about the desirability of financial reform and the specifics of federal reserve quantitative easing operations. Thankfully, I knew what I was talking about.

If one isn’t passionate/knowledgable about an academic field towards which he expresses interest in these interviwes, he could easily get screwed by being unable to answer them intelligently.

@TippuSultan - I think I am able to get out hahaha

Good luck, EAers!!
I’m applying RD, so I’ll be back much later!

Applying RD. Good luck everyone :)

yeah, I have a passion for Soviet Era documentary films, which my interviewer didn’t know about. But I felt I conveyed to him why it interested me so much, and it gave us a great starting place to delve into Soviet history in general, each of us adding different context

Wow that’s a really cool interest ksonty!

I’m applying RD… these were the first essays I finished because I could actually think of how to answer them creatively and intelligently.

I applied EA to UChicago, and I also had a very similar experience at the interview. I spent 2 hours talking to my interviewer about my diverse interests in both science and international relations, the mid-term elections, research on chick embryos, etc.

My interview actually went an hour longer than we’d planned. Fortunately we spent most of the time conversing about books and social activism. (my two passions).

Applied EA. Eagerly waiting for my decision.

I really enjoyed my interview. it was at a small cafe, and the guy was really fun and not formal… my first interview was for MIT, held in the lady’s work place. BIG difference in atmosphere. I have to say that my experience with the two kind of makes me lean toward uchicago. :)

Does anyone know how they rank admission factors?
My SATs are a bit on the low side (2090 [690 CR, 670 M, 730 W]).
Do you think this is an issue even if I have superb recs, ECs, good essays?
I know Chicago says SATs aren’t the determining factor at all, but the school gets more competitive each year.

sooo nervous… can’t wait for the 15th!

Roughly 20% admit this time. Haha, this means that I am going to be on the other 80%. :P

@boomshakalaka where did you get the 20% admittance rate come from? Exactly how many applied this year?
