My S also received work study. We thought it was the traditional approach (you are guaranteed work on campus, and it could be any type of work you’re assigned to at any of the facilities). We asked, and at least what they listed for work study for us is not the federal program people are used to. They don’t guarantee you’ll get it, and you aren’t assigned a job. You apply for any of their open jobs, along with all other students who are interested, and it isn’t guaranteed. However, they said there were so many jobs, that virtually anyone who wants one, gets one. Essentially, they mean they expect the kid to find a job on campus (or elsewhere) to contribute toward their educational costs. I’m not sure if yours is the same, but ours is just listed on the FA package as: work study. You can always call FA to verify if it’s the same in your case.
