Waitlisted! Did receive the COVID-19 email
Got in!!!
Rejected, got email about COVID though
DS denied after EA deferral. Just devastating. UChicago was easily his top choice and he would have applied ED1 if our financial situation allowed.
Congrats and good luck to those that got in.
Rejected
Does anyone have stats on how many students are typically waitlisted?
I got waitlisted. Also curious on their waitlist stats. Do they typically waitlist a lot of people?
Waitlisted how many people usually get in off the waitlist?
Rejected
DD on the waitlist.
400-600 students are wait listed. 3% of them get accepted.
DS admitted after EA deferral; no Covid email yesterday
DS rejected after deferred from EA. Sad day for him
Waitlisted. No covid email.
@cavluv1 wow really unusual to get accepted after EA. Did you do anything to demonstrate interest?
Waitlisted after EA deferral–we thought it’d be a rejection after the EA deferral, so that’s interesting. Harvey Mudd later, then two weeks of waiting, with all the bad news (online school, cancelled senior trip, cancelled summer trip, cancelled prom, cancelled sports, cancelled college admitted days, etc.) we’re hoping for something positive.
@redmittens He was in contact with his rep to update him a couple of times but never submitted a formal LOCI. His original app definitely conveyed interest and fit. We were sure he wouldn’t be admitted from what everyone says about EA deferrals.
So interesting that he got rejected when they told his counselor he would get in if he would ED2 after being deferred ea. He went regular decision. This school refuses to take any chances on their yield. The moral of the story is if Uchicago is a top choice but not your first choice don’t Early Action.
“The moral of the story is if Uchicago is a top choice but not your first choice don’t Early Action.” - It is a great saying future students shall remember well!
That’s the unfortunate lesson we learned. I knew that the return of ED meant the University was playing games with admissions statistics (among other things) but DS didn’t want to REA to any of HYPS when they weren’t his top choice. It was Chicago all the way. We even wasted money to get him there for an overnight visit to confirm that’s where he wanted to be. We just couldn’t do ED for financial reasons.
I’d love to see the data on EA vs ED and RD applications and admissions. I’d wager it isn’t flattering to the university but would help applicants immensely.
