UChicago 2024 RD/ED II

To those who were waitlisted, were you given the option of taking a gap year? I am trying to figure out if that is usual protocol for all waitlisted students.

I think every waitlister has that 2 choices, it’s standard protocol for all waitlisted students

Ok thanks!

Yes- signed up for it. But don’t have any stats on when they inform you if you got into 2025 or what the acceptance rates are of that program.

Whether or not her persistence had anything to do with her admission, that is a characteristic that is laudable and will serve her well. Your daughter sounds like she is more than capable of carving her own path in the world. I wish her and all the other future Maroons the best.

I got admitted

Just to be clear: It is absolutely NOT the usual protocol for all waitlisted students to be offered the opportunity to take a gap year and be admitted to UChicago the following year. The last few years, they have offered a handful of waitlisted students that option, often called “Z-Listing” (because that’s what it is called at Harvard, which has done something similar for years). It has never been clear that they intend to continue that practice, or at what volume, but the volume has never been high.

What is the usual protocol for for waitlisted students is that if they take a gap year (i.e., do not enroll anywhere as a college student), they are free to re-apply for first-year admission next year. With what everyone assumes is minuscule chances of admission.

My sibling was accepted! I was rejected years ago so this makes me happy

Congrats to the UChicago c/o 2024

Despite the low number of RD acceptance rate, there seems to be a big number of accepted RD applicants here in this thread. Congratulations to everyone accepted  . Hope you decide to matriculate at UChicago and see you in September in Hyde Park this year (with the COVID-19 gone).

Deferred in EA and the Rejected in RD

I suspect the acceptance rate is higher for those not requiring FA

^ That may well be true for international applicants, as the admission decision there isn’t “need blind.”

waitlisted…UChicago was one of my top choices. I am not super sad because I have a spectacular offer from Skidmore.

Accepted RD. (I’m late to the party, but better late than never!) :,)

When does financial aid come out? Merit scholarships?

@scaredandnervous DS received financial aid with his acceptance letter and merit was awarded a few days later.

Waitlisted RD… better than I expected haha

D20 admitted RD. Does anyone have info about National Merit awards at UChicago? UChicago is listed as a college sponsor on the National Merit list, but their web site is vague about it. Is there an automatic amount in the $500-$2,000 range?

@juleval, if your D20 has specified UChicago as “first choice” via her NMSC portal by the next time the list is sent off to the sponsoring colleges, she will be eligible for the $2k/year college-sponsored award. NMF’s are notified via their NM portal on a couple of dates in May, IIRC. Dates are all in the NM instructions.
