UChicago Chances Test Optional

@JBStillFlying So I realized something. I had UChicago on the list of colleges to send my ACT score to when I registered to take the test. If I apply under Test Optional, will they just disregard that. It won’t be in my actual application but it was sent to them.

^you should get in touch with your AO and request that they disregard your scores. When you click the TO box that should happen anyway. But reach out to your AO anyway for peace of mind. Or check the FAQs as this question might be included.

"If I had SAT or ACT scores sent before applying, can my application be reviewed without considering these scores?

Yes, if you previously had SAT or ACT scores sent before applying, you can indicate in your application that you wish to have your application considered without SAT or ACT scores."

I want to major in Neuroscience, but I heard that UChicago is not very know for that. Are lower ranked majors easier to get into? If so, would I have a better chance to get in under a neuroscience major?

^ UChicago is a liberal arts college and your major will be approximately 1/3 of your total credits required for graduation (another third will be the Core and then there are electives. YMMV depending on how many credits you bring in and what your specific major is). No one “gets into” a major except maybe Law Letters and Society which is deliberately capped. Some of the pre-reqs for Neuro might be weeders (gen chem comes to mind) but as long as you complete those satisfactorily and maintain the minimum GPA required, you should be able to graduate in that major. The point of a liberal arts education is to allow you to explore and major in what truly interests you.

Currently, Neuro has 158 first and second majors, so is right behind physics in terms of popularity. And physics is ranked fairly high, as you know (so are history at 152 majors and English lang/lit at 126 majors) so numbers don’t necessarily correlate to ranking. Bio, for instance, is the 2nd most popular major on campus and UChicago isn’t ranked highly in biological sciences at all. What you should be looking for in a major is whether you find it interesting and whether it satisfies your longer term intellectual and professional goals.

@JBStillFlying , could ED 2 applicants receive Likely Letters? Or is that only for RD applicants?

IIRC, LL’s for this time of year are to RD’s only. The ED2 decision are out in a month and those accepted are already committed to the school so no need to “incentivize” them.

I was rejected

^ That’s a real bummer! Thank you for updating!

It’s all cool. I’m attending Purdue with a merit scholarship. Thank you for replying when I needed help! Lol time to retire this account ?
