UChicago Class of 2012 Wait List

I think the meaning of the last communication was:

– at this point, no one should expect to hear anything until the end of May
– then, all anyone is likely to hear is either that he or she won’t be admitted, or that he or she has the option to remain on the waitlist for another couple of months
– they have taken a handful of special situation students off the waitlist (and I guess may still do that), but do not anticipate taking any significant number of applicants from the waitlist other than in response to the domino effect from Harvard’s and Princeton’s comparatively large number of waitlist offers

My understanding is that diehardcubsfan was an anomaly. The day after he/she got the call, the VP for Enrollment said that Chicago did not need to use its waitlist unless it lost a lot of enrollees to other schools’ waitlist acceptances. Obviously, that may not have been 100% true, but just as obviously he wouldn’t have said it if it were meaningfully false. Don’t hold your breath waiting for good news.
