UChicago Questions? Ask an admissions counselor!

I joined my track team at school in January, so I did not think to put it on my application because I started it so late. However, I picked up the sort easily and I am looking to continue it in college. I know that there is a division 3 track team at UChicago, which is perfect for my level. I contacted the track coach and am waiting for an email back. My current coach is also calling him today. However, I am wait listed at UChicago. If I speak to the coach and he agrees to let me be on the track team if I attend, is this something that I should notify admissions about? Do I just email my regional admissions counselor? Thank you.

@UChicago

@Cazoon, you may update your regional counselor of this by email, but I would wait until you hear further information from the track coach before doing so.

Ok, thank you so much for your help!

@UChicago‌ When will wait listed students start being accepted? I have heard from last year that someone received a call of acceptance as early as April 10.
Do you think UChicago will be able to take people of the wait list this year? If so, about how many?
Is it too late to send a letter of continued interest and how big of an impact does that have?
Thanks so much! You’re awesome for answering questions!

Is the regional admissions officer, the one who decides whether or not they want to advocate for one of the applicants in their region? @UChicago

@lanie49, we are still determining whether, and how many, spaces will be available for waitlisted students in our incoming class. It is not too late to send a brief note of continued interest to your regional admissions counselor.

@tesfayeB, although all of our final decisions are made in our admissions committee, your regional counselor is your chief advocate!

Thank you @UChicago apparently people are getting off the waiting list right now as we speak!! (today) @Lanie49 and some other people got off the waiting list… I am still waiting though but that’s okay

@UChicago What is the process like for applying for financial aid during the second year of UChicago? (particularly for an international student) Since the common app process my financial situation had changed quite a bit and my dad has been struggling with finding employment since, so I would look to apply for FA in the future if this continued. (I’m an international admitted student btw)

@UChicago Hi! Historically, when does UChicago stop accepting people off the waitlist?

@ElijahPS we are not able to grant financial aid to international students at any time after the point of matriculation. If your financial situation has changed, please contact your regional admissions counselor now to discuss this process.

@Neurogirl07, this depends on the year, but in the past several years we have notified waitlisted students that they either they will or will not be admitted from the waitlist by mid-May.

Thank you so much!

@UChicago Hi! If I was interested in taking a gap year would it be best to let my regional counslers know? Also would this affect me in any way possible if I am currently being waitlisted?

I have the same question as @colestech . Also, I tried calling and emailing the track coach and he has not gotten back to me. Should I try calling the assistant coach? I just won my district championship in pole vault, is this important new news to update about? Thanks. @UChicago

@UChicago are we going to get a survey that will let us choose the option if we are open to taking a gap year? I think Waitlisted students last year were offered that option in the form of a survey. Thanks!

I just checked with someone, and it turns out that we aren’t getting a survey to indicate whether we’re interested in taking a gap year!

@UChicago Can I send my SAT testing scores as they are released? I have already sent my June SAT scores to UChicago but as I am applying via Early Action in 2016, do I need to resend my scores closer to the date of application or does the admission office keep hold of them?

@blu5959 we will keep them on file if you send them before you apply, so no need to send them again!

@UChicago After lurking here for a couple of years, finally it is my DS’s turn to apply. He is considering to apply UChicago for early action. We are very excited! So here is the first question: In the website, it says “The University of Chicago does not charge a college application fee for students applying for need-based financial aid.” So we do not pay application fee, if we just apply (not necessarily being awarded) for need-based financial aid?

longone - Congratulations on reaching this stage of your life. Best of luck to you. The adcom who used to answer these questions (Grace aka UChicago) has moved on. Supposedly someone is stepping in for Grace now that she’s gone but I’ve not seen a response yet from the new person. I wanted to let you know that so that you are not discouraged if the answer does not come right away.

For what it’s worth, my reading of the web site leads me to conclude that, yes, you can get your app fee waived under the new “No Barriers” program. It doesn’t say anything about being awarded financial aid, just applying for financial aid. This is the logical answer also since award of financial aid comes after the application is considered.

Another option for you is to submit a question through the admissions Tumblr account found here:
