UChicago: "Where fun comes to die." True or False

From my experience, it was both fun and not-fun, like any college experience. Some nights were loaded with work, other nights and weeks I was going out and drinking Wed-Sat.

Chicago doesn’t have a heavy binge drinking/loud party/frat culture, nor does it have some of the downsides that go along with an extreme party culture. This relative absence of that kind of culture has a lot to do with “Where fun comes to die,” as does the sort of ironic pride that students put into it. I think if you decide to come here, you recognize that you’ll be doing quite a bit of work, you will be shown up in class by somebody who is smarter than you, you won’t always make great grades, and people don’t measure “cool” but “hours spent getting wasted” here. AND, your relatives will think you go to a state school. (At least mine do!) I always felt that that slogan was our way of smirking to ourselves.

I found myself at people-dancing/music-blaring parties as well as classical-music/wine-drinking parties during my time there. Both were very fun for me.
