Have you asked this question to the programs themselves? “Can you tell me what large firms come to your career fair program and where your students generally find themselves post graduation?”.
Have you visited either/both schools? As you recognized already - very different schools.
One of my daughter’s tennis teammates, attended USC and majored in architecture. I don’t know anything about the major, but I do know that she had difficulty finding a job, in California, after graduation and internships. I think the climate at the time just had too many recent grads looking for positions.
She was always an extremely strong student. This was several years ago, but because she’s extremely creative and resourceful, she used her USC alumni network and pivoted into designing toys for Mattel.
The key: She’s a US citizen.
US Employers are required to employ US citizens for available positions, first, before they consider non-US citizens. They don’t want to go through the hassle of paperwork and fees to sponsor non-US citizens.
“Sarah” had internships at a couple of small firms, but they didn’t have the budget, nor contracts to employ her full time, after graduation.
You’re making plans to become employed and stay in the US after graduation, but you don’t get to make that decision. US immigration makes that decision.
From what I understand, there is no vast shortage of architects in the US, that I know of, so there’s no reason for the US to provide extra time for you to stay in the US and work.
Choose a school that will fit for your country because in four years you’ll be returning there.
