UCLA > Cal

I got accepted to UCLA as well, and I too had difficult time deciding between this and Cal. UCLA’s campus is magnificent, I’ll have to admit that!

I chose Cal strictly because of the number of professors who teach/do research in my area of study (British History). I loved the UCLA campus (but not as keen on the weather… although I have to admit that the weather this fall sucked at Cal - too hot).

I tend to look at the strengths of departments and less about overall rankings. It’s really about getting the best education I can.

Guys, come on! I’m a Cal student, and have good reasons for being here (mainly the kind of math I like, and the wonderful mathematics faculty in this area at Cal), but really I don’t think there is a clear answer on which school is better. For “overall name” you might as well go to an Ivy and forget these schools.

It is what someone does AT a school, not the school gone to (beyond a point) which matters.

When it comes to academic prestige Berkeley is better than UCLA.

No actually I do go to Stanford, UCSD was my undergrad…but I don’t know if I am suppose to get offended by you calling me a ■■■■■??..I don’t even know how to respond, beside advising you to get a life “startraksfinest” hahaa which explains your name…loser

How can you be going to (in the present tense, as you have state in your posts) Stanford and UCSD at the same time. Your story does not add up, especially with your claim that you are a UCSD undergrad and a Stanford grad.

ZOMGGGGGGGGGGGG!!! MORE WORLD RANKINGS GUYS!!! UC BERKELEY #4 IN THE WORLD, UCSD #13, and UCLA #16!!! ALL JUST ON PAR WITH THE IVIES AHEAD OF THE REST OF THE UNIVERSITIES ON THIS PLANET

BROWN IS #82 NOW??!!?! WILL IT BE DEMOTED FROM THE IVIES BECAUSE OF ITS UNDERPERFORMANCE!?!?!

premed4life goes to UC Merced btw. I think he just created this thread to raise a commotion

oopurestoo- actually the ranking you provided is old ranking. This year ranking UCLA is higher than SD. Also, that ranking is for graduate school. we are talking about undergrad here.

^that source does not say that it is graduate, it just says “Top 500 World Universities (1-100)”

I just saw this thread. I always thought that Berkeley was a good amount better than UCLA. I never knew that they could be that comparable.

Dude its all exaggeration. I was simply mocking premed4life

leftishominid- UCSF is listed in the ranking they don’t even have undergrad.

either it is because they are overall ratings as opposed just undergrad or back in 2004 UCSF still had an undergrad nursing program

cal is ranked higher than ucla

Cal vs. UCLA is like LeBron vs. Kobe in the MVP race. They are both good, but one is obviously better than the other. Cal = LeBron James.

just kidding, they’re both great schools but I know nothing about which is better than which

lets put in a more a understandable example

the number 104 is slightly greater than the number 103; there isn’t much difference between them, but that does mean 103 = 104, 104 is still greater than 103, even though it is only slightly greater

Cal is like 104
UCLA is like 103
Stanfurd and U$C are like 90

Stanfurd 120
Cal 115
University on the Corner of Lexington Avenue 110
U$C (University of Sucking ****) 90

I love Cal and all but I have to give the nod to the farm if I had to rank them.

Cal has Top Dog and that it itself proves that it is superior to UCLA.

Excuse me for asking, but on a ranking list, wouldn’t a lower number be better?

So it would be more like (undergrad) 10 = LSJU
15 = Berkeley
50 = The Southern Branch
100 = U$C/University of Scholastic Compromise
