UCLA Freshman Class of 2027 Waitlist/Appeal Thread

It sounds like UCLA is following UCSD’s lead from last year and sending out denials for some waitlisted students and keeping others on a short list in case more spots open up. Until they officially close the waitlist, there is always the possibility of more admits. I believe UCB is doing the same thing this year since there are some waitlisted students that have not gotten a decision yet but some denials have been sent out.

Do all UCs officially announce their waitlists are close when that happen?

Yes, historically they have posted that they have closed their waitlists.

Got the rejection message in the portal today; no email though.

Our daughter got off the UCLA waitlist this morning for pre-psychology; She got an email update; The wait is finally over for her… UCLA was her dream school;

@icecreamnut looks like I missed this message, I was traveling to take care of my mom and probably missed this message and noticed it today. Where did your son finally go ? Is he playing club soccer. I recently learnt from another soccer mom (met her during alumni soccer game at the high school, it is a tradition that school follows each year) who could not make it to D1 soccer team, her son was missing of soccer so he decided to try out for club soccer for Santa Clara University and got in and was very happy to be at the field.

Yes you are right on how athlete path but you are competing for 4-12 spots and that is lot of pressure. In Caltech there were 8 recruitments last year and that was a big number. I have to check with my son to see how many they plan to recruit in current cycle

Lets hope all athletes find a way to play the sports in some form, it is very hard to detach them from the sports.

Hope all is well with your family! My son chose to attend UC Berkeley. I don’t think the UCB decision was out when I posted in this thread last year:) He was also accepted by Georgia Tech. So he did really well with large public colleges with good engineering schools, in or out of state. He didn’t get many acceptances with private colleges, accepted at RIT, WPI, BU, waitlisted at CMU and Cornell but rejected later. He was choosing between UCB and UCLA, using a coin flip, which landed on Berkeley:) He is not playing soccer now. Berkeley has 1 men’s club soccer team and it might be more competitive to get on than a D3 team:(. He got COVID right before the try-out so didn’t make the team. But he is plenty busy, joined an engineering club, went with them to launch a rocket in Mojave dessert. He comes back to the city to continue his activity with his martial arts club. He made ok grades 1st semester, not 4.0 but no B’s either! He seems happy though somewhat detached from soccer…
