UCLA: GPA, Essay, or Activity?

i would just like to point out that it’s very apparent when there are CC people who just got out of high school on the forums.

to answer the original question , i think for a transfer your essay is very important…it even says that they want to see and get to know you on the ucla website in regards to how they make their decision.

WHen it comes to most majors, there is always more qualified people than there are spots.

You can have 4.0 all preq done and that does not in any way gurantee you a spot, you do have to have the best essay you can if you want to really be a strong competetor.

Also i belive you can have a somwhat low gpa, like under 3.4 and still get in if your essay is strong enough.

I had a 3.66 at the time of my application, but i can gurantee you that i got in because of my essay. … i had a lot of family situations, i spend 5 years at CC, and i really attempted to show them that i can go to school despite having other difficult responsibilities in my life.

Your gpa is just one part, it simply tells them if you can do your work, it doesnt tell them who you are. Its very easy for someone to get a 4.0 at cc when they do nothing else and dont even work and have full parental support… when it comes to this applicant or the one who had a full time job the whole time and family responsilbity and also volunteered but maybe had a 3.8, they would oviously pick the one with a 3.8.

malishka, if that high school comment was directed at me, i’d like you to know that CC users are insecure, childish, and arrogant without the help of high school students.

you’ve been out of high school for what, 2 years? and you think you’re better than me?

give me a break, please. i was ready to stop posting after cardinal put out a peace keeping post, so dont start me up with ur bs.

Here are my two cents to the OP: The thing about extracurricualrs is they are supposed to display commitment to a cause. If you sign up for a bunch of different activities in your last semester the school will see that for what it is. It would look like you were just trying to create a laundry list to get in their school. Which is what you would be doing. It would be much more benificial, IMO, to just stay the course. Take the courses you need to and get a high gpa. Extracurricular wise it is going to be tough to beat kids who have years of activities. Doing the extracurriculars can’t hurt you but it won’t help you as much as you think. I am applying for the same major this fall. I think your focus should be gpa and essay.

LOL. Don’t mess with this girl because she’s a step away from declaring an all out flame war!

hahahaha lol shut up = ) i’m only fiesty when people start things with me. i usually dont argue online

it actually was not directed at you b/c i didnt even read what you were posting, it was directed at the fact that every other topic is covered with people arguing and correcting each otheres grammer… but after your second post in reply to mine, it might as well be directed at you.
i have been out of hs for over 5 years already and i dont think and was not trying to attack you in anyway, its just annoying when in every single thread peopel argue for silly reasons.

ok drop it…

In an effort to stop the escalating CC flaming violence, I am going on a hunger strike.

lol its over. my flame is out. any ‘fiesty’ that was in me this morning is burned out and dead. long story short, today was my first day on the job and i’m so pooped that absolutely nothing can **** me off on CC…

dont count on that if i wake up tomorrow morning energized and ready to fight! haha jk

i think they consider mostly anything that is associated with your CC courses, that is your GPA, the number of classes you take per semester, the order of the classes, etc… I don’t think EC’s count as much, but do hear that employment while in school is one thing they like.

Depends on the major.

But generally, GPA GPA GPA xs a thousand and five.

Seriously.

hah allie (10 char)

ucla… gpa gpa gpa

at least that was the case for admissions this year. not sure about transfer…but i’m pretty sure it’s the same

4.0 and meet reqs = pretty much guaranteed any major?
