UCLA Housing Out

I went to the Live Chat to ask about trading with other students…
Frank Montana: Hi, my name is Frank Montana. How may I help you?
Maria Milova: Hello, I have two questions: 1) There is a person who is willing to trade with my housing offer, is it possible to do that? 2) If I accept my housing offer, but find an apartment off-campus a day after I have submitted my agreement, is it still possible to reject the offer?
Frank Montana: Hello Maria,
Frank Montana: You must first accept your housing offer as stated in Ask Housing ID# 701 and then you will be able to submit an on-line Change of Assignment Request (CAR). Once you accept and pay your offer, if you cancel your offer you will charged a $300 contract cancellation fee.
Maria Milova: Hello Frank  I am offered a Triple, Shared Bath in Rieber Vista, even though in my housing contract I only put off-campus university owned apartments. What did I do wrong and why I did not get the university apartments? There is a person, who wants to trade with me his offer of one-bedroom, 3 occupants, can I switch with him?
Frank Montana: You did not do anything wrong. Assignments were made based on what spaces were available. Answer ID #26 in Ask Housing explains in more detail.
Maria Milova: Thank you, Frank, so my understanding is that I am not able to just trade with someone else, who would want to trade with me? I have to accept my offer first and pay for it. There is absolutely no way I can just switch with another person?
Frank Montana: That is correct.
Maria Milova: Oh, and if I reject my offer, then there is no way getting it back, correct? (In other words, I can become homeless)
Frank Montana: Rejecting an offer results in you losing your housing guarantee.
Maria Milova: Thank you very much for your help. Have a nice day! :]

i signed the offer and made my first payment! yayyy :)

Another Sunset Village here. Double though. Which is nice, but much more difficult to afford. Therefore I haven’t accepted yet and might want to do a CAR :/

I got Sunset too. Seeing all of these Sunset people wanting to move out “because of the social setting” makes me think that all the incoming Sunset Village peeps aren’t in fact anti-social like everyone says… stay put, and I think it should be good. =]

I paid and submitted my car right away haha

I have a triple in rieber one of the newer and more social plazas.I would like to trade for a single. Please PM me if interested thanks

Reiber Vista Triple Shared Bath

I read someone’s post about passing out on someone’s floor… that will probably be me. Cheers.

Yeah, I’m with 50cal-

I got a triple in sunset village, 12407 pear year, I don’t know if it is residential suite even though the price matches.

sumbit my CAR…, now they better give me a nice room or else … I am gonna cry T_T

Triple, shared, Sunset Village. Yea, dont know much about it but eh…

i got a triple, shared, sunset also.

I got a Triple, Sunset Village. It didn’t say “Shared Bath”, so does it mean that it has a private bath?? Could anyone tell me about it??

I don’t know why I’m obsessed with the bathroom situation, but is it even possible to share one toilet and one shower with six people??

For those of us that are in the triple/shared…

i lived in a house with 5 other guys last year and only one bathroom.
it’s totally manageable, especially since you’ve got someone to do the cleaning for you…

I actually chose shared bath over private bath. With the private bath, the shower, toilet, and sink are are all in the same room just like at your house. With the shared bath, the shower and toilet are in their own separate rooms. This way, that annoying roommate who takes two hour-long showers a day won’t stop you from going to the bathroom or brushing your teeth.

Well, there are 2 sinks and then the toilet and shower are in different rooms so I think it will be manageable. I’m sure everyone will have their own schedule and shower at different times so I don’t think it will be a very big deal.

Since most of us has been offered Sunset, let’s look at it positively. At least we’ll know we’re dorming mostly with transfer students and not freshmen & sophomores.

I don’t know what the game plan is exactly yet, but if that’s the case then I look forward to see all of you soon.

Yeah, I’m actually pretty stoked that most of us are in Sunset.

soo… i’m a bit confused how this whole financial aid system works for tuition, personal fees, books, and housing?

i tried selecting “financial aid” for the housing, and basically what it did was deducted the first and second initial fees from ~$1,000 to $200 for each initial installment fee; however, what the system really did was transfer the deducted amount to the quarterly installment… I’m practically paying the same amount…

Since I was awarded $16,000, wouldn’t that cover some of the housing? Is it possible that we may have to pay for the tuition first, then the remaining aid may cover the housing?
