And besides, most people are aware that the “ching-chong” thing is a racial taunt; chances are, she was aware as well and still chose to use it.

Many UCLA students have stated that talking in the library is quite common and not just limited to Asian students.

And w/ study groups, etc., it’s quite common at university libraries across the country; one usually has to go into the “depths” to find a quiet space.

No, more like the media/Hollywood continues to perpetuate the stereotype that Asians are just foreigners.

Any film centered around an Asian star is usually centered around a foreign Asian star, typically martial arts films or films set in Asia.

Or else it’s a film about foreign asian gangs (Triads or Yakuza) whether it’s a spoof (“Balls of Fury”) or a drama (“Rising Sun”; btw, there is talk of a “Rising Sun” remake, this time Koreans replacing the Japanese).

And for films/tv shows where Asians have a bit/supporting part, most of them are the same ol’, same ol’ (basically another take take on the “Sixteen Candles” Long Duk Dong character or scaring Americans about the “yellow peril”).

Here are some recent cast callings/films involving Asians for Hollywood.

CBS Pilot “Two Broke Girls” being developed by the “Sex and the City” creator.

The pilot ep features an male Asian character by the name of Han Lee, described in the script as 33, Korean Born, Lovable, Thin Man; Thick Accent.

The running joke is that Han Lee, wanting to “assimilate” wants to be called Bryce Lee, and w/ all the “silly antics and laughter” repeatedly gets referred to as “Rice Lee.”

(Frankly, I’m not surprised this drivel is coming from the creator of “SiTC”; Manhattan is full of professional Asian males and all we saw were Asian workers in a sushi restaurant or Chinese food delivery guys; Asian women were treated a bit better).

Here’s another - a cast call for an upcoming Paramount Pictures feature film called “Fun Size” w/ an Asian male character by the name of Peng.

A Korean kid by the name of “Peng” - lol

And there’s a remake of “Red Dawn”; this time w/ the “baddies” being the North Koreans (originally, it was going to be the Chinese, but you, know, can’t upset the Chinese market nowadays).

The most notable Asia characters on popular TV shows - such as “Heroes” (foreign); Sun and Jin in "Lost’ (“foreign”), etc.

Here’s what an Asian-Am actor (and Brown University student) in Eastwood’s “Gran Torino” had to say about his experience working on the film.

The more things change, the more things stay the same.

“Sixteen Candles” director John Hughes assumed that the actor who played Long Duk Dong, Gedde Watanabe, was Japanese and not Japanese American and that he really couldn’t speak English fluently.

“Lost” actor Daniel Dae Kim would go to parties in Hollywood and directors, agents and other Hollywood types would be surprised to hear him speak fluent, unaccented English (a bit ironic since DDK couldn’t really speak Korean as he did on the show).

Funny, the perception of gays and lesbians has changed considerably so - just over the past decade even tho many people don’t know gays/lesbians (at least ones who are out of the closet).

Gee, I wonder if the increased and changing portrayal of gays and lesbians in film and TV had anything to do w/ that?

Her behavior is merely reflective of the larger mass anglo european collective. Its not just about mere “racism/prejudice” its about white supremacy. These people are willing to denigrate any other non white group as long as it aids their own positions. Im also shocked how someone so stupid could have even been allowed entrance into such key school like UCLA to begin with.

haha I saw the video few month ago. I personally don’t find this as offensive as many people make it to be. it just shows you stupidity. there is a parody/satire of this where this guy was explaining it which is hilarious. here is his breakdown of UCLA:
U (you)
C (see)
L (lots of)
A (asians)

but yea… she is stupid considering that she put it on youtube and she was majoring in pol sci
