Nonsense!
We’ve stolen everything and gotten away with it. All this ridiculous backtracking and bowing to the Big “C” drives me NUTS!

First, I HATE the crummy powder blue that UCLA has taken on over the years. We started off with navy & gold. I was okay when we reduced our colors to royal blue & gold to be a little different. But by the time it go to powder blue, I had to stand up and FIGHT against this further compromise. The darker we are, the better we score. IMHO. None of you (or even me) is old enough to remember the time when not only did UCLA have navy & gold as its team colors, but UCLA also proudly wore (and sold) jackets emblazoned with the big “C”. I saw one of them on Ebay a while back (and it sold for a pretty price too!). I’m hoping we go back to the royal blue – and was happy to see the 2011 retro student Den t-shirts given out back to royal blue & gold. Yea!!

Second, we also stole the Big “C” fight song. Same tune, but we renamed it “Sons of Westwood”. That ended up in a big fight, but we won that fight because the original Big “C” fight song was in the public domain, so there was no copyright infringement (Go Bruins!). Part of the Nor Cal/So Cal rivalry is yelling over the lyrics. What strikes me is that the Cal fans know the words by HEART. I challenge any of you (and I know with google, I’m putting myself out here) to swear (without a search) you can sing all the lyrics to Sons of Westwood.

Third, I would love it if my peeps (yes, you, my faithful Bruins) get into the same spirit that exists at Cal and learn a little more than the 8 Clap – AND maybe even have a little fun with the national anthem, like Cal does. Sing out: Oh say can “UC”!! And instead of them singing “the home of the BEARS!” we sing “the home of the BRUINS!”

And, yes, I do have a dog in this fight. My husband and I are true blue Bruins, and our son is a, bless his heart, faithful Golden Bear.
